Ye they were very much real and many were punished for nothing altho there were some witches burned people beloved that we were evil and a sin to gods rules so the hunted us when are family were sick and got better from a cold or making a small amount of extra money. You'd be very lucky to find one where you can still make put the words if you find one at all

Modern history points to ergot poisoning being the cause of a lot of the confusion.

Funny thing, the same hting happened in provinicial France in the mid 1950's...a priest was called in and the root of the problem was a lot of hallunications due to ergot poisoning.

Look it up !

Yes the Salem Witch Trials happened however no real witches were burned but a few of the people that were burned had links to the craft.

well it's 50/50 really. it did happen, and it has become legend however the only witch was Tituba [a house slave who followed Caribbean Voodoo i think] otherwise it was rumours that got out of hand. basically some pre teens were afraid of getting in trouble and started accusing people of witchcraft. sad part of the puritan life, once accused it was game over. if you confessed you wouldn't be tortured, and you might not even be executed [just rot in jail until you die] however lying was a sin, so someone asks 'are you a witch' you say no [because saying yes would be a lie] and the accuser says 'you're lying' and now you are guilty of witchcraft and lying. [fun times right?] in my opinion the only winner was Giles Cory who actually didn't say yes or no to witchcraft, without answering, he was given the same rights as a Christian when he died [which was rather soon since he was crushed to death while they tried to force a confession]

anyway, i suggest you research the history yourself further. [or read The Crucible]

Yes Witches were burned, my ex-girlfriend was a witch during that period she was burned in her past life; what's odd is that I was too we were a couple, but since it was a man dominated culture then I got away with it, but I was still put to death for attempted murder to the person who set ablaze my wife. Again its odd how we are separated in this life time.

No Witches were burned in Salem. In fact it is highly unlikely that any of those accused, with the possible exception of Tituba, had anything to do with magical practices of any kind. Those who were executed were hanged, with one exception. Giles Corey, the only male accused, was pressed to death.

The theory of ergot poisoning has largely been discounted by further research. Instead the hysteria seems to have started over issues of greed and a desire to take land from certain widows in the community. I'd suggest the book "The Devil in Massachusetts: A Modern Inquiry into the Salem Witch Trials" by Marion Starkey and Steve Chadde
