Empath An empath is someone who has the ability to feel the emotions of others, while all have the ability to have this gift some have the gift stronger then others. Also you may act out on the feelings of others, if someone is mad you will get mad someone is happy you get happy.

Bi polar Mood swings

I was thinking maybe the label of "bi polar" maybe mislabeeling empaths

I don't think so. Though we are affected by other people's moods, I don't see it as the same as bipolar. Bipolar people can change without anyone being around. My daughter, for instance; I've witnessed the change from day to day without any input around her. Its a chemical mix-up that kind of short circuits the brain, which is why meds work. Short circuits cause seizures, too, but can be caused by damage or not forming right. Interesting, though, that some of the same meds work for both seizures and bipolar. BB

Empath and Bi-Polar are two very different things.
A Bi-Polar person can be an empath, although it would be very complicated
Bi-Polarism is a very serious disorder, which doctors has confirmed are due to issues with the chemicals in your brain.
If your mood only change around people, and they are serious mood changes, perhaps you have social anxiety.
Bipolar does not,by any means, directly link together with being an empath.

Thats a very interesting thought.
Doctors told me I was bi polar (later they said that it was actually Borderline Personality disorder) and I've known for a while that I can feel and absorb the emotions of others.
If you think about it, a lot of mental "disorders" could actually be spiritual gifts. Like schizophrenia might be seeing spirits or psychic visions, Multiple personal disorder could be someone who can channel spirits, Sleep-walkers could be astral projectors that are not fully out of their bodies, Phobias could be related to past lives, etc.
Its something to think about.

Well, MagicalHound, Manic-depression has nothing to do with being around people. "Being Bipolar" is different from "Thinking that you're Bipolar".
Bipolar disorder is a complex disorder that likely stems from a combination of genetic and non-genetic factors. The mood episodes associated with it involve clinical depression or mania (extreme elation and high energy) with periods of normal mood and energy in between episodes.

However that's the "psychological point of view".

This is incredibly offensive to genuinely sick people. If you compare the excrutiating symtoms of living with bipolar with the pretty axiomatic condition of 'being an empath' you will find a large scale difference.

Get an education.
