Random Pennies

Hey guys, I've just recently moved into a new apartment, [its actually a house build in 1850 by a man with 11 kids and their rooms have been broken up into apartments] well through cleaning and unpacking I've come across a lot of pennies. [Two in each room normally on the windowcill] I'm currently reading a book on curses and it said sometimes people curse an object and leave it behind to curse the house. I do not belief my place is cursed but I was wondering if this could be some type of luck spell since pennies can be used for luck. [Just curious is all]

I found an thread online where someone found the same thing when they bought a foreclosed house. Apparently it's a good luck custom (origin unknown) of placing a penny on every windowsill on New Year's day every year.

Another post from an online article in the same thread said the following Sherrie Flick and Rick Schweikert, both writers, moved into their 1880 house two years ago to discover gifts from the sellers: pennies on the windowsills and a bottle of Jim Beam in the kitchen. , supposedly this was a gift of good luck left for the buyers and is a tradition, so perhaps the owner's of the apartment follow the same tradition. In this thread it's mentioned being done by many different cultures including Irish & Italian to bring good fortune and includes placing pennies in other locations as well.

Your welcome. It was a little interesting I had of course heard that finding a penny heads up brings good luck, though I'm not superstitious myself. My family follows the old black eye pea New Years superstition though it's a tradition in our home rather than superstation.

Thank you both for questioning and answering. I have learned something new. The only thing I know of pennies is superstition of never picking up a penny (or any copper coin) face down. Turn it face up and leave it for next person. My Theatre Instructor told us that one and though I put no stock in it, I find it fun to follow it. :-)
