Enchanting an object simply means "blessing" it with positive energy.
As for the usage of enchantment, you may enchant an object to-
¤ Draw energy from it when required.
¤ For good luck purposes.
¤ For protection.,etc.

Enchantment will not serve purposes like being able to make that object fly,to control someone, etc.
Again, for example if you enchant a pen and write with it in an exam without studying, the least that can happen is failing in that exam. Thus, enchantment is just blessing.

You may enchant an object by many ways like putting your positive energy in that object,by lighting a candle and chanting a spell and passing the object over the smoke, etc.

I guess that may be answered by a female better, but still you may cast magick spells during menstruation which does not involve any deities.Though i do not know about other paths whether it may apply, but in hinduism, praying or summoning or invoking deities during menstruation is strictly prohibited. Each for every,i still am not sure. But this question is'nt necessarily related to what's being discussed above :)
