It depends on who you ask, but in short it is the world of spirits. Peoples spiritaul bodies and spirits exist on it.
In my opion the astral plane is much more than empty space in which your astral body floats, you just have to go deep enough into it.

can be defined many ways. think of it as a paralel universe of sorts, where all the spiritual beings and mythological creatures dwell. it's very similar to our own but it's spiritual while we're physical. so basically it's your spirit over there, so you can fly if you want, i don't want to say be whatever you want, but if you feel like you belong with wolves, you may be a wolf in the astral. tat being said, while there's no harm to your physical self, you can get attacked in the astral, and that would be a spiritual attack. i was once hurt in the astral, couldn't project for some time after.

So it's a dumping ground for everything impossible? Everything impossible on earth is possible there?

You could do what ever you'd like in the spirit realm; after all the possibilities are practically endless. While the spirit realm may have no limitations that, however, doesn't mean you can go there in astral and do what you please. It really means that you have the potential to do any thing you'd like. You are only limited to what you can do. You are limited by your imagination, what you think you can do, what you know you can do, and what you are unsure of, and what you don't know. If you think or know you can fly then you can and probably will if you try. But if you are unsure your chances of doing that which you are unsure about lowers. And obviously if you don't know then you most likely won't.

The astral may be the same either way, but what makes it so different is personal experience and perception. We all will experience the astral/spiritual realm differently and have a different perspective of it; no matter how similar two people or more experience and perceive similarly.

@ RheaSon you could say that. i know of many practitioners who have studied for many years who believe the astral is all in our imaginations and non of it is real. i also know people who have studied for just as long and believe the exact opposite. there are many different theories about it and what can be done there. you can ever create your own world in the astral. though why you'd want to i have no clue, and i am concerned about the whole looseness of the realm.

@ BrunoSantos what are you so afraid of exactly?

i have read if i open my eyes in the vibrational state it could turn out into a living nightmare, because the physical eyes didnt focused and the shadows turn into unpleasant things
at least that wat i heard and read!
technically i am afraid of the unknown as all human beings.
i think when i loose my fears i could be ready to astral project

The astral plane (parallel to the physical) is far more chaotic than the ethereal (spirit plane). In the astral, yes, anything is possible. This is where our magick forms before it manifests into our physical goal. It is where our circles lie, our servitors, our shields, our thought forms, and even kid's imaginary friends and the monsters they think up that live under their beds. Spirits do dwell here but normally only low spirits, or ones who have just passed on. The astral is best compared to purgatory, but instead of waiting for some sort of higher being to take the spirits off somewhere, it is a matter of when they feel ready to let go of their physical lives and move on to the spiritual plane (although they can return to visit loved ones). But just as our emotions and thoughts here effect us, in the astral this is increased, because our fears, guilt, etc can manifest and haunt us up close and personally. This is what hell truly is. That is why it is important to live a fullfilling life and find our happiness within it. This is also why it is important to be confidant and positive. People who have died traumatically are tormented and create the most haunted areas of the world. Until they let go of their physical life, they will forever live their nightmares.

Higher beings usually travel to the astral to interact and influence and then return to their spiritual realm. The spirit plane is not parallelled to our world. It is a network of innumerable realms, each unique, and all connected to one base realm known to many as the neutral realm.
