That is a matter of opinion on spell casting. some think it is insulting to blow out the candle and that the candle should only be pinched out. I have seen some spells that require you to blow out the candle.

I generally use a cone shaped candle snuffer.

I agree with Nord. There's even some feelings about not pinching the candle either. Letting it burn out while watching it or snuffing it out is seen as better to those. When I was a Christian Witch, I would take the Bible and snuff out the candle.

When I got more into candle magick I learned using a candle snuffer is better than blowing it out. Simply because blowing it out can spew wax. So maybe you should and maybe you shouldn't. It might depend on the spell. But if your going to, candle snuffer instead of blowing is probably better option.

it depends on personal opinion really. i snuff out my candles, primarily because i read it in a book when i was starting out. some people [myself included] believe it's insulting to the fire element [using air to extinguish it] but most believe you're undoing or weakening the spell by blowing some of the energy away. do whatever you feel works best.

I use candle snuffer for most spells, except the ones I am sending something away from me (negative energy, worries), or simply sending away a message in a form of energy.

If you are anxious person breathing in deeply and then releasing it helps you to release some of the stress, raising within. In way you are releasing it by sending it away.

In my culture(Slavic) the nouns for soul and spirit are derived from the verb breathe, and same is valid for Latin and Greek. Therefore, it is believed that when you breath in you are accepting energy and when you breath out you are sending it away.

Same train of thought is applied in internal martial arts, where you breath in and pull in the chi(life force) and then breath out and push it out, while closing the cycle and being in balance. Thus, receiving the consciousness and/or the life force and then sending it away with your own input.
