Learning Runes
By: / Novice
So with the new year coming I am adding a couple of practices to my
Path, mainly Summoning.I want to spend 2016 on The Gotia but also
Want to learn a new method of Divination,I Mainly use Tarot and Marble casting (like casting Bones)Are the Runes very hard, are they as strong as so many people claim and besides divination can they be used for anything else? For instance i have a whole system for casting spells or adding power to my spells using my tarot deck
Can Runes be used like this as well? Also Rune fan do you have two or three rune books you would recommend for a rune rookie?
Thanks

The runes are as difficult to learn as you choose to make them. Many suggest that you spend a day contemplating the meaning of each rune, with the Elder that will be 24 days, the Younger will be 16. Now, just putting in the days will not guarantee success, it just helps get to know them. There is much lore and study in their uses that one can get into as well.

Runes can be used to create sigils, bindrunes, and nid-stang poles. They have several uses which can be found through further study.

I guess pretty much the same as the Tarot
I remember picking one out each morning and keeping it on me all day, looking at it from time to time
I socked that method for jotting a card down in my Book then keep in it on my Altar for a few days before moving on to the next one
I guess ill go with the Elder since I'm going to spend a year trading myself daily, more time if needed
I take two days a week off when learning a new system so it don't feel like a project, this way after a short break I look forward to picking up again.

Som rune books that I'd suggest include:

"Taking Up the Runes" by Diana Paxson

"At the Well of Wyrd" by Edred Thorsson

"Runelore" by Edred Thorsson
