Truth or Belief

I have just had a mail from a boy saying that the Sun always rises in the East and sets in the West. But, of course, that is not true. The Sun doesn't rise at all!
If only the young on this site learnt to distinguish a "truth" from a "belief" the site would improve no end!

Let them believe what they want to believe. If you can't fix it, then there's no point in forcing them to believe things. They're just kids.

This site is supposed to be for "learning", as well as exchanging opinions. Most members are seeking enlightenment, and truth. Anyone may believe anything they wish. But a belief does not mean it is true. Are we older and more experienced members supposed to tell the young that the sky really is blue? That the sea really is green? And that the Sun actually rises?
If so, then we may as well tell them that Vampires really do exist!

The concept of that is based on when you see the sun and how you perceive it.

What is true vs. what haute to be the truth? Ideals vs. Truths? Objective truth and moral truth vs. Perception? Hidden truths vs. Perception? If there are truths, who governs and makes such truths?

Let me give a further question..

There is a board. The majority perceives the board as green but someone who is supposedly colorblind sees it blue. Who is right and who is wrong? We do not know. How do we know that the majority is actually colorblind? We don't.

I want to see your thoughts on the above.

I all a younger one, but I know truth from reality. Should we say,he's a fluff for believing a simple veiw? I don't think so.

I do believe we should guide others, nit to the point where we say there views are wrong, but to the point where they start to see more reality than fantasy.

Honestly yes, we should be able to know at age 13+ but yet some still don't see veiws, and /or haven't learnt reality yet.

There is not one color in the sky, if anything science says it's a mixture of a the colors. It makes sense, at dawn it's pink or purple, midway it blue or orange and at night it's black or really faint.
If someone says the sky is blue? Is this that bad? No, is it correct? No, is it there veiws however? Yes. Via; it's not right or wrong, it's just belief.

However bryson your right. I am younger, but it still annoys me. When we then state the truth, many whine and say were mean or rude. In a way I agree with you, for even at age 13 this still Happens. Even age 30,4,50, ect. It still happens, but it still isn't wring nor right.

What makes blue blue or orange orange? We do! The majority of our reality is built on human belief and teaching. To another animal, many birds for instance, the world looks entirely different because they can see ultraviolet light.

There is a YouTube video out by SciShow right now that shows how birds may see which is really quite cool. But we can't know for sure because we aren't birds.

This is a very nice thread on perception verses reality. Excellent topic!

By the way, to Brysing, most of us are very young. He is an elder of the community. So don't be offended if he calls you a boy, girl, child, etc. If you multiplied your age by 3, you'd still be younger than him. I think he has right to see us as youthful. Heck, I see it as a compliment. I'm almost 30...they don't card me anymore! :'(

Here is a question than: Is it wrong to let a young child believe in santa, and than explain the concept of Santa later on in their years? Santa Is real in a sense as we all are Santa at one point. Are jobs here are to be the one to tell truth (if you want to believe there is such as thing as truth) to others, in a polite way, in a 'Teacher to student' way. Yes, the sun doesn't actually rise or set, however we have been told as children it dose. So it takes someone a little longer to see the bigger picture on that one subject while they understand another quickly. We must be as understanding and patient, even when its so hard to do so. We weren't all born with the know how of the world. This has reminded me to be more patient and understanding at my work, as I've been dealing with someone who 'just doesn't get it', Maybe we all need to think about how we react around others when we know were right and they are so clearly 'wrong'.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion I will grant you that but facts are facts and when you state facts and people cry about how you are infringing on what they have a right to believe you must allow them to play their ignorance card if they must. It's a terrible task to try and open a closed mind.

I wasn't trying to insult anybody, just voicing an opinion that the young should try to distinguish fact from fiction. So many youngsters believe in Vampires because of the novel "Dracula" by Bram Stoker. They believe in the fiction of Television, and Movies. Surely it is up to those who know better to point these sort of fictions out? Otherwise, there's no point in the site! (Not that the elders "always" know better! I have been taught quite a few things by youngsters on this site!)
