Amulets and Talismans

Just a bit of information for the uninformed..

An amulet is something akin to a good luck and protection charm. It could be a ring, gem, plant, or any other item (sometimes even a word or phrase) but the most well known is a pendant. When making one, you cleanse the item and charge it to protect you from harm. It would also be a good idea to ask your god/goddess to bless it if you work with any.

A talisman is an object that is charged with magical properties designed for a particular purpose. Obviously you would want to cleanse this item first so other energies do not effect it. It could be charged with your own energy, that of the earth, moon, another practitioner, even a powerful entity. Make sure that whatever it is charged with suites the purpose you are going to set it with.

Sorry it is so short, but I just wanted to clarify the difference between the two since many do not answer that question when brought up in the chat. Feel free to add whatever :)

Bright Blessings xx

Although Wikipedia may say differently, from my understanding an amulet is always protection. I can only see "luck" as being the "luck" involved in detering danger, ill intentions or misfortunes. A talisman can be for any purpose that it signifies and/or has been charged for. And a charm is either a short spoken spell, or an object that is used within the purpose of a spell.

In one of the books that I read it said that an amulet was any natural object used for protection or any other purpose designated by the caster, whereas a talisman was any man-made object used for the same or similar purposes.

Regardless, very interesting post indeed.

A police man's badge is just a star. It has no power, it doesn't stop the bad guys. It has power because you believe in it. Is that something like a talisman?
