Where do I start?
By:
Post # 1
Im new to Wicca and I honestly don't know where to start. I researched and went on a lot of sites but I got too much information which made me lost.
I just need to know what to start learning first and what to focus on. I prefer websites more than books at the moment.
So any help is appreciated :)

Hello;
I am a student of the Magickal Arts and will always be, there is just too much information in this day and age to study, learn and, practice.
If, I may make a humble suggestion;
1) Google what a spell is, what state of mind to act like when casting a spell and, how to cast a spell, including correspondences i.e; waxing/full/waning moon phase, day, hour of week, season, color of candles, herbs, fragrances, etc.
2) Google how to cast a circle, there are many methods. I downloaded many, compared and selected the best of the various suggestions and, designed my own ceremony.
3) The following comes from "Modern Magick, Eleven Lessons in the High Magickal Arts" by Daniel Michael Kraig. If anything, it is interesting reading. To perform these exercises, is wonderful. There is a video here on how to perform the "LBRP" but it is kind of dark and not easy to see.
Google "The Lesser Banishing Ritual Of The Pentagram." Try to get the one with the clearest writing to perform it.
part 1 - The Kabalistic Cross
part 2 - The Formulation Of The Pentagrams - Learn the positin of "The Enterer"
part 3 - The Evocation Of The Arch-Angels
part 4 - Repeat part 1 - The Kabalistic Cross
Perform The Ritual Of The Middle Pillar
Perform The Circulation Of The Body Of Light
There is a "Rosey Cross" Mandala image, that I googled. It is inspiring. But, it is just black and white. It needs to be colored in.
What I have given you is a simple direction of where to start, as you have asked. There is so much more.
Read the thread of "stuck" by akinade. It has just finished posting about an hour or so, ago. Morgaina gives great basic information and, I give some humble suggestions too.
A fellow student.

Hi there, I?ve been practicing Wicca for a good many years now and one of the first questions that comes up is the one about where to start. My suggestion is always to start by doing some reading and studying to make certain that you understand what Wicca is really all about, and so that you can then decide whether this is truly the path that you want to follow. So with that in mind I thought I would offer some books and websites that are full of sound I information which can help you get started on your path.

Remember that Wicca is first and foremost a religion. So my recommendation would be to begin by learning as much as you can about the beliefs that are part of the religion, about the Wheel of the Year and what it means, and about how to go about celebrating the Wiccan religious observances. Magic, while part of Wicca, is certainly not the most important part. That can come much later when you are sure that this is the religion for you.

To begin with, here are some books that I would suggest.

''A Witch Alone'' by Marian Green
''The Elements of Ritual'' by Deborah Lipp
''Witchcrafting'' by Phyllis Curott
''21st Century Wicca'' by Jennifer Hunter
''Before You Cast a Spell'' by Carl McColman
''When, Why...If'' by Robin Wood
''Practical Pagan'' by Dana Eilers
''Wicca; A Year and a Day'' by Timothy Roderick

You can also find the recommended reading list that my coven uses at: http://www.tangledmoon.org/reading_list.htm

Here's some websites that you may find useful in helping you with questions.

Read The Teen Witch By, Silver Ravenwolf. Also, read Wicca A Guide For The Solitary Practitioner By, Scott Cunningham; and Wicca A Further Guide For The Solitary Practitioner By, Scott Cunningham. You can probably get all of these at some time or another at Half Price Books. I would recommend reading The Teen Witch first because it goes more in depth and it is easier to understand the other two books if you read this one. If you don't have a Half Priced Books or other used bookstore in your area then try your local library and see if they have any of these. These books came out in the 90's so you should be able to find them somewhere since there isn't a lot of demand for them in some places.
