Question about Familiars
By:
I'm new to this and I think my familiar might have been my dog but she got sick and we had to put her down last year. So do you only get on for your whole life or do I have another one out there waiting for me somewhere?

A witch's familiar isn't necessarily their pet, and a pet is not necessarily your familiar. You can open up to a similar relationship that you had with your dog, in the future with another animal. But this idea that "you only get one for your whole life" or that there's one out there waiting for you even if you don't do anything doesn't make sense without the context of any strict tradition. It doesn't sound as if you adhere to any such strict tradition, so why close yourself off to a future possibility just because your had a treasured experience that you decided was so? If you're still grieving, then that's understandable and you have my condolences...but, it's not really the thing to universalize one experience, nor to expect somebody else to give you facts in a territory ruled by intuition.

Lark has an educational post on familiars in the Wicca section, it might be worth a read

I just thought of something too like about a year ago there was a snake in my yard that I felt a strong bond with it looked at me and held eye contact with me for like 2 full minutes and I had the urge to go up to it and pick it up and it started to slither towards me but I was kind of afraid of snakes at the time so I stayed away from it stayed in and watched me leave in the car with my grandma. When I came home it was gone. Could I have missed out on a chance?

You didn't miss out on a chance with the snake. Familiars are not actual living animals, but spirits that are often shaped like animals.
