Witches Survival Guide?
By:
Post # 1
Ok so I have been thinking of doing a personal witches survival guide, almost like a mini version of a book of shadows, except just information. I want to know what to put in it, like do I put herbs, crystals, spells, etc. Any suggestions on where I should start?

I'd say the first things to put in it are an explanation of what magick can and cannot do and an explanation of magick as being an art form and a craft, not just a series of spells you know.

That would address a huge amount of newbie confusedness and misconception.

Also keep in mind that a BoS is NOT for the eyes of other people. This, I am assuming, would be something you wish to market and/or give out, yes?

Correction: Books of Shadows are frequently not for the eyes of others. Whether or not to share your BoS is a combination of a tradition choice (as some things may be initiate-specific) and personal choice. If your BoS contains nothing secret and it be your Will to share it then none has the right to tell you not to.

It should also be noted that huge portions of both the Gardnerian and Alexandrian Books of Shadows are publicly available;

Gardnerian: http://www.sacred-texts.com/pag/gbos/index.htm
Alexandrian: http://www.scribd.com/doc/47729454/alexandrian-book-of-shadows

A common enough practice is for a coven or tradition to have their own BoS which all members start with and then, over time, eventually add to until each member has their own unique-yet-related BoS. I think bluewitch's goal may be something along these lines; generally agreed upon basics and a fully functional BoS which a person can start with, but which a person would ultimately add to and change as they learn and become more clear upon their own beliefs and path in magick.
