Unfortunately, magick has been separated into "dark" and "light" or "black" and "white", when originally these two "sides" were apart of every magickal practioners knowledge and practice. I am pleased to see someone interested in both, but it is better if you see no line between them. It is just "magick" just "nature" and ultimately "balance".

Some people will argue and get all huffy about "black magick".

"Black" magick can be compared to martial arts. Knowing how to fight and defend ones self is not "bad" nor will cause one to gain "bad Karma".It is essentially learning to protect ones self, take control and only harm when necessary. It is within your good judgement to have the sense to know when using it is appropriate. Martial arts can be a beautiful experience, and so can the darker side of magick. Karma is about living life in a wholesome way and that of cause and effect. But what if you are the effect and another is the cause? No one considers this.

"Black" magick is viewing and using the shadowed side of life. The side most people fear. But accepting, understanding, and using this side, you gain a complete understanding of life and magick. It's the difference between seeing the world as a whole or wrapping yourself up in cotton and running from the shadows. Nature is not all hearts and flowers, and to accept and love nature for all that it is, one must accept both the light and the dark and understand it. Not one deity in this world is all light and love, they all have a darker side to them. Why should we, who look up to divinity discard this side ourselves? Would we not wish to use them and the whole of Nature as a role model?

The only thing you'll ever need is you and knowledge. The word "magi" (magician) translates to wise man. The word "witch" derived from the meaning wise as well. So research, observation and experimentation is all key. Go to a bookstore or library and spend the whole day reading. But read critically, there is a lot of garbage out there. Stay away from Silver Ravenwolf and any "teen witch" books.

Hello Icy,

Their is a wide misconception of "Black Magic" & "White Magic". The energy or the source used from one to the next is the same. It is much like the energy of your house it can be used to power your lights or an electric chair.

It's intent for the outcome is programmed by the one casting the magic and that is what determines black or white aspect of the magick. Intent is the operation that dictates how the outcome or magick will manifest

Personally I find "Black" magick,

Normally but is not limited to. Intention with forethought, to injure - mentally, physically, emotionally, or spiritually or an act that deprives another of their "free will".

Although their is some talk of the 3 fold law I have not found this to be true but rather find in my own workings that magic is nether good nor bad and you make the call on what it is for you. Many times you may do things which inadvertently or due to a lack of deliberation cause others harm just as with anything else in life. We all experience trials and difficulties, most of which we bring upon ourselves. It's just part of life, and is part of our evolution.

And I completely agree with what Whiterav3n said.
