Certain berries (I'm talking about edible berries) give the red colour you're looking for, but use them carefully or they'll turn purple..a shade of red might be achived with red or black tea, if you can find any.
Even the turnip would give you a shade of bloody red.

What is the exact material you would like to color?Different materials will hold up the dye differently ,therefore different materials might not turn out to be the same hue, despite you used same dye and same quantity of it.Never the less if you are dying fabrics you need dye that does not wash up easy with water.
Beetroot juice stains a lot ,so do black cherries juice. I would have imagine they should be able to dye at least paper.I have never tried to dye things with them ,but have had numerous times when my lips and tongue would turn red eating those.Use freshly squeezed juice from fresh produce not the one they sell in bottles or cartons as "natural juice".
I agree that red berries will probably stain red.You might consider some experimenting.

In the medieval period the color red was generally obtained by using the madder plant. The reds obtained tended to be more of a rusty color. Getting a bright red was very problematic with natural dies. The color you get also depends on what mordant you use to pick up the color into what is being died and what material you are dying.

Pokeberries are poisonous but were used as a very permanent red ink that has been said to last as long as the papers they are written on. Who eats their ink? So it being inedible shouldn't be a problem. Its a common plant doves and other birds love to eat. But it depends on what you are dying.
