Short answer: Yes.

Mid-length answer: I don't have any physical familiars, but the "familiar spirits" that I am acquainted with are mostly human-shaped.

Long answer: If you define a familiar as a physical being and often a pet, then I guess you could find a human being with a low enough self-esteem to basically be the Igor to your Doctor Frankenstein. But I personally think that's really mean. Why don't you try being somebody else's familiar, huh, see how you like it?

Aeons Wing, it was a question because my friend wants to do it. forcing it upon them is stupid and mean, but if they want to do it then it is their choice. its not like i would make them do anything they didnt want to.

I am willingly my masters familar
And if u have a good master its great!!
And sometimes u survive things that otherwise would have killed u
And if u feel like u have no purpose a good master to serve can make u feel like u have purpose
So i think is good to be her familar
(And i am also an energy source she can use if needed)

If they want to enter that sort of relationship, then it's both your choices. If you choose not to, then they can't choose to continue to be your familiar all on their own. It means that you take a lot of responsibility all the time, and that can be exhausting. But, fair enough, you can have something like an apprentice/magus relationship where your friend never graduates. Other than that, what do you expect a familiar to actually do?

Viewing a familiar as something demeaning is rather egocentric towards the spirit that chooses to help you (people in general) in your magical and/or spiritual workings, which is what a familiar is. Typically spirits don't like being disrespected, though they can have different ideas of what respect and disrespect are.

Any spell that attempts to "create" a familiar outside of creating a servitor has the wrong idea of what is traditionally viewed of a familiar. Anyone who has experience with them or has researched the topic will typically say that familiars choose their people, not the other way around.

Also any spell that attempts to force anyone to do anything is shunned or completely disregarded by many folk. Outside of bindings and oaths, which both or all parties have to accept on some level, I personally don't think it is possible to force anything magically.

That being said, technically a human who helps you (Ink_Blood and anyone else it applies to) in your magical workings and chooses to do so can be considered a familiar. If you want to get into morals, ethics, and other subjective stances on it, then I am not the one to answer your question. You do you, it's none of my business to tell you what's wrong and right.

Eissy, you're right. Ink Blood, I made a lot of assumptions because the original post involved a spell, which I took as an attempt to shortcut a working relationship that familiarity actually is. If your friend wants to a commit to that, then it's none of my business if I think it's wrong.
