With respect, I disagree...but only just a bit...

I highly doubt there is any spell or ritual that would bestow upon someone the gift of mental telepathy.

That being said, it seems to occur naturally in some people that they can project their thoughts and feelings to others across distances. It would seem too that it is passed on in families.

I used to firmly believe it was hogwash, however, I have personally encountered some people that I have felt when they are thinking about me. I'll know they are going to call or text just before they do and i would consider this a form of telepathy.

I have no psychic ability as sender or receiver so I believe the ability of telepathy works within these senders. I am 45 years old and experienced this only quite recently.

I don't believe in fluff and would consider myself a skeptic in most things as I prefer to have evidence that at least I can experience. Im a results oriented type of person and theoretical discussions to me, are tedious unless I can see some kind of empirical evidence.

So my evidence is purely anecdotal, so take it for what it is worth.

Telepathy has been tried in scientific tests, cards of symbols. Quite a few showed results beyond mere chance.
However, the tests were not conclusive.

Yes, but not like in the movies, for instance a movie psychic can make a car fly a real psychic can make a tooth pick fly (whell thats the most imprasive trick I can do with telekinesis) (psychic as in a vay of saying a person who uses telekinesis)
"those who can say can't can only speak of them salves"

If we think about telepathy in a pragmatic way, it is best to break down the components in this ability. Telepathy is the ability to 'read', 'sense', or know someone's thoughts, feelings or having a precognition of an event.
Thoughts are just neural pulses that specific neurons in the brain release to travel to other specific neurons to correlate into a pattern which we perceive as, 'I want a cheeseburger' or 'The color blue makes me angry', these pulses and the movement of these pulses, signal chemical imbalances which then lead to a series of typified perceptions we call emotions. Because the electrical impulses are not purely brain inclusive, anything that can 'sense' or perceive electrons, can pick up on these impulses as they permeate from the person for a certain distance. If we go by this definition, then technically somebody could 'read thoughts' if they could tune into these pulses and decode them, although I'm sure if you had such an ability the effect would be instantaneous. Besides this, people already, to a certain degree can read thoughts and emotions due to adaptive evolution that allows us to know when another is angry or sad, ect, to allow us certain social liberties, although some people are more perceptive of others. I'm sure that such an ability though would be nauseating now a days considering all the electrical impulses coming off of technology, wifi, radios and what-not. Scientists are actually looking into this line of thought for research into comatose patients, although the research is rather slow because of the sheer complexity of the brain and our lack of knowledge on individual perceptions and thoughts and what they would translate to in the language of neural impulses, a library of what impulse combination leads to what thought would take quite a long time to compile and would have to be truly extensive in order to make any sort of leeway.
As for long distance precognition all I can supply on this matter would be on the use of a global collective conscience or a particular close relation to another person which would allow you to pick up on these impulses from a long distance. Perhaps the pulses can travel the same way cell phone calls and internet travels!
I would like to add that my knowledge of this subject is not particularly precise as I am not an expert on the brain or even neurology, but I believe that the knowledge is sound enough. If anybody knows more about this I would love it if you could correct or elaborate my statements! Also, I am rather sick right now so the wording might be difficult to understand or awkward.

Gekko actually hit fairly close to home on the description of Telepathy from a scientific stand point. All brain activity is based upon electrical impulses... thoughts, memories, muscle actions and reactions, ect. It is really no different than your computer or cell phone... only on a much faster and more powerful level.

With that said, at least the "idea" of telepathy is completely possible if we view it on an electrical standpoint. Sharks have evolved an electrical detection system over millions of years that is far more powerful than anything we humans have created. They can sense the tiniest electrical impulses from a fish tens and ever hundreds of feet away. If we took this concept and turned it towards the brain, by focusing those detections, in theory we too could sense electrical impulses, and through interpretation could even read minds so to speak.

On a different level, electricity also moves harmonically... meaning that it resonates at a certain frequency (household electricity at 60 hz, radios and computers at +1000 hz, ect). Similar to radio waves, these frequencies can be detected with instruments from a distance. The human mind too, using electrical impulses, will produce differing frequecies, and the right person with the ability to detect these frequencies and be in tune with them could in turn be able to communicate with that person "telepathically".

Now, you must forgive me if I've torn the veil off of some people's more mystical view on psionics but it's easier to prove that something can exist on a scientific level... before the scientists try to rule out magic and psionics... with science. Their closed mindedness drives me insane. And this coming from someone who has degrees in both psychology and engineering. I've learned to approach all things from every angle, be it scientific, psychological, mystical, spiritual and just plain common sense... and in the end I've learned that honestly... anything is possible...

Rather astute. I also agree with your standpoint concerning magic and science. While these two subjects often stand on completely different ends of the spectrum, especially concerning the most of society. I tend to believe that the two go hand in hand, magic is science and sometimes I think that us practitioners have even a more complete collection of knowledge concerning the more abstract dealings in science with the universe and energy. It is perhaps our ability to find solutions against the norm and acceptance of things that society has deemed impossible, that has lead us to a greater understanding of these matters where some scientists wont even ponder the idea in fear of being ludicrous! Our magic is science!
Anyway, I diverge, Thank you for your knowledge, it was rather informative!

Personally... I disagree with the fact that telepathy exists. However, it has been rumored that some people were born with tremendous power and others were able to sort of unblock it with different techniques. Try what you like, I suppose, and see what comes to you.

I have no problems with your personal opinion Ora, just make sure that you don't discount something without looking at it from every angle. Think where man was at 5000 years ago... technology was nothing more than some levers and pullys... whereas magic and supernatural powers were on the forefront because it was what gave man power at that time. Heck, mathematics, even in it's simplest form was viewed as witchcraft at the time.

Now fast forward through time... Technology is everywhere... to the point humans almost couldn't function without it. Even now we are controlling electrons and radio waves to talk to people thousands of miles away... do that 5000 years ago and you'd be viewed as a god. But, because of this jump in technology, man has "forgotten" things like magic, witchcraft and psionic abilities that their ancestors used in every day lives.

But, the world turns in a circle, and the funny thing is, that circle is about come back around on itself. Technology is one step away from proving things such as telepathy and other abilities that have been unused in the human mind. We are just now creating computers that can link to a human mind, read it's thoughts so to speak and even record memories. Given, that form of technology is only in it's infancy, but once it comes about, it will basically prove that computers can be created to use telepathy so to speak... and what is the most powerful computer known to man? The human brain. Knowing this, it is only logical that there are people who have the ability already to control that "forgotten" portion of thier mind, giving them essentially the gift of telepathy.

Anyways, I'll get off my little soap box for now. Just wanted to share a different take on how man has "lost" many of his abilities over the generations... Thanks in no small part to the technology that we created to make life easier on us.
