Hi, I've been researching witch trials and I came across a forum on a website that suggested the possibility of the witch trials starting up again, I'm assuming it would be in secret though. Although I would like it if somebody was to confirm this information.
As long as groups like Westboro Baptist Church exist, there will be witch hunts. They will not be famous or broadcasted like the witch trials, but they do happen.
The Westboro Baptist Church does not commit "witch hunts." They are a hate group that protests veteran funerals, Gay rights, and other things they deem hell fire worthy, which is almost everything. Important to note they are NOT involved in any way with the Baptist Church.
Witch hunts are more about finding an enemy the lurks among us, bringing it into light and exposing it, then putting it on trial and sentencing it unjustly. This is identical to terrorism in the way Muslim citizens were treated.
McCarthyism is a great example of witch hunts, many people's lives were destroyed or reputations at stake by the idea of this hidden evil of communism. One of these victims wrote the fictional version of the Salem witch trials known as The Crucible, Arthur Miller.
I sincerely doubt we have to worry about "witch hunts" or "witch trials" in the major Western nations such as the US, Canada, Britain, Australia, etc. Where there are ongoing trials for magic users, not just witches, are in areas such as Africa and some parts of Asia. And those trials are not of magic users such as we have here on SOM. Mostly they are about superstition and attempts to steal land and wealth from others.
I agree. Youve got nothing to worry about in that aspect but dont be surprised if you find yourself defending or hiding. Whatever best suits the circumstance. I dont suggest hiding in peticular or being overly agressive in your defense unless you are defending you or someone elses rights, but i have had instances where some people are afraid of what they dont understand and felt it better to conceal for now rather than martyr myself, so to speak but not literaly.
