Witch or Warlock ?
By:
I'm not sure why I'm asking this, so please have patience with me ...

My research taught me, that both male and female practitioners, are witches. The term warlock, refers to a darker path.

Now, there are some mainstream shows, that show respect for the occult.
Not mentioning a title, one episode caught me off guard.
One segment leads up to finding "a warlock, a male witch", for what help they needed ...

So, have I been wrong this whole time, or did this series slip up on the details?

Thank you for your time.

Both male and female practitioners of Witchcraft and/or Wicca are properly referred to as Witches.

The word "Warlock" comes from the Anglo-Saxon word meaning "oath-breaker" or "traitor" and was typically used to name someone who had violated their oaths to their coven or grove. The term is still used in modern Wicca to indicate someone who cannot be trusted. It is not something that most Witches would ever consider using to name themselves.

Thanks for the response.

I knew I was correct.

Well, that's one show I'll probably stop watching ...

A witch is both man and woman, one who wants to be one with the energies around them.. I didn't even know people used the term Warlock. So thank you both for teaching me that.

A witch is a "thing" that basically controls their surroundings or others with their mind. Enough said, but that is my opinion. Technically, a witch is a female "witch," and a male witch is actually called a wizard. Female: witch. Male: wizard. You only hear warlock in America. Talk about shock value.

Technically, you are incorrect. " Witch " can refer to both males and females. Both the word Witch and the word Wicca derive from the Anglo-Saxon words " wicca " (pronounced witch-a) meaning male Witch and "wicce" (pronounced witch-eh) meaning a female Witch. My husband is a Witch and would seriously laugh should someone call him a Wizard.

A Wizard is something else entirely and is mostly a term used in fictional books and movies. Although some have claimed it for those who practice various forms of High Magic.
