Trouble sleeping lately.

I've always had trouble sleeping. Ever since I was around 4 or 5, I've had sleep paralysis (apparently it runs in my family), but of course I've also heard of it being a form of astral projection. When I read more up on it, I've been more calm about being paralyzed in my sleep; I've let it take over me without being afraid. I use to feel like I couldn't breathe before, but now, it's weird to say, but I see brighter colors in my head when I'm paralyzed, almost like I kept seeing fireworks (I don't know if this happens to anyone else).

Well, that part's not the issue anymore. The last time I was paralyzed was months ago. I use to sleep walk and talk and have insomnia, which by the way I have right now, I have a Stats class at noon. It's 7 AM right now and I still haven't gone to sleep, but did take a nap for an hour at around 8 at night.

Sorry for so much information, all of that isn't the problem I'm having now. The one I'm asking about is what I've noticed lately and even my boyfriend notices this when we sleep together. Almost every single night right before I go to sleep, I end up waking myself up by twitching. You know how when you're about to sleep and you only dream for 1 minute, and that 1 minute dream involves you falling down a hole or tripping over a rock, so you wake yourself back up? I know everyone has that, but I don't even dream anymore for me to wake myself back up. The last time it happened to me was when I was taking a nap earlier. I was laying on my boyfriend and all of a sudden, I just twitched myself back awake without even dreaming about falling or tripping over something. It keeps happening to where my boyfriend keeps asking what's wrong.

I don't think it's a problem where I have to go to the doctor or anything. But, I've been meditating a lot more for the past couple of months and noticed that the problem started and progressed at around that time.

Has this happen to anyone else so frequently like this or am I just being paranoid?

Ok. This is quite interesting. Never really heard about it before, but it occured more often when you meditated more often. You know meditating helps you searching for your true self? It connects you to the universe, and thus to yourself. That might have attended you about something that happened in the past. Now you are trying to show yourself about it. It can also just be something about your way of sleeping, but I'm not sure. Maybe others know more? Blessings

I've had that problm where you dream for about a minute then wake yourself up,but not really anything else you discribed,but i did hear about a type of spell for a good night sleep,you'll have to look around though i don't know one,sorry.

I would go to a doctor just in case. Especially since you have a history of sleep problems. Think back to when this started. Have you had any major life changes that might be stressing you out? Sometimes just knowing the cause can help. I've always had trouble sleeping too, although nothing so serious as what you described. Chamomile and nutmeg are good for sleep. Maybe try a cup of chamomile tea with a little sprinkle of nutmeg before bed.

Twitching is normal. Its when your body is tense before going to sleep. Usually when your under stress or have been doing too much physical activity. Try meditating and doing stretches before sleeping. Yoga is great. I've taught my husband some yoga and he does it before sleeping when he's had a stressful day at work. He then sleeps peacefully and doesn't twitch or jerk awake.

I hate going to the doctors... But, I'll try to find a yoga book to buy at my nearest store. I actually bought a mat for it not too long ago. One of my friends is training me MMA at the moment and one of his warm-ups is yoga. Hopefully it helps me.

To bttflymoon: There's been troubles in my past, but I don't think they've caught up to me. There have been some tragedies with family and friends and some illegal things in my life, but I don't think it's traumatized me enough to give me sleeping problems.

Try grounding and centering yourself before bed.Whilst your vibrations are lifting higher during your growth you will experience insomnia.(new energies entering the body takes awhile for you to get used to them).This is quite normal most people are experiencing this as part of their awakening process. It can take many years to reach a fully awakened state of being hence why you may have suffered insomnia in the past.

I agree with whiteraven and bliss. Many experience sleep issues while they are opening them self up to themselves and the universe. Meditation can stimulate the energies within the body and cause sleep issues especially if you do not tier the body out. Yoga is one of the best ways to work on meditation. You start out by grounding and centering for 10-15 minutes. Then you move on to an active meditation as you move through the poses . You need to remember to concentrate on your breath as you move through your poses. This should last for 45 to an hour. Then do a relaxation meditation for 10-15 minutes at the end in your shavasana or relaxation pose. This pose can be the standard corpse pose, a variation of it such as laying on your back with your feet up a wall or you may sit in lotus position. This allows the body and mind time to relax and release. Be sure to also drink plenty of water before and after you practice yoga.

I also suggest talking with your doctor about the use of valerian as a sleep aid. Drinking some valerian tea or taking some valerian extract before bed may also help you to fall asleep.
