This is called precognition. There's a very long history of this kind of power. It isn't good or bad. The people who are born with this power are called "oracles", and back in ancient Greece they were considered to be blessed by the gods. People would frequently go see an oracle to determine their course in life. The oracle would then use various types of divination to assist their power and tell the person what they saw.

Nowadays people mostly don't believe that the future can be predicted. Then again, most people haven't seen it for themselves, and in all the oracles I've ever met (myself included), the power is far too random and unpredictable to be useful.

If you're interested in strengthening your precognitive ability, look up any form of divination you like and start practicing. There are many ways to do this, one of the most popular is Tarot. Just take my warning to heart. It isn't really a good thing to know what's going to happen. People hate it. You'll end up warning people about bad stuff that's coming up and either they won't listen and it will happen anyway OR they will listen and it will still happen anyway. Either way they won't appreciate it. No one likes a person who's right about things they have no way of knowing for reasons they can't understand.

Meditate just before sleeping and tell yourself that you will remember everything you dream when you wake up. Keep a dream journal beside your bed and regardless of whether it is a random dream or something important, write down EVERY detail you can remember.

After doing this for one to two weeks straight, you should begin to have better recall. And after a month or two, you should be able to remember most nights. This is training your mind to remember. Some people don't recall dreams because they are deemed unimportant by the subconscious. But you must always keep a journal because writing them down not only allow you to record all information, but it brings the dreams from short term memory to long term memory (all note taking does). Doing this will also condition your mind that dreams are to be remembered.

Good luck and pleasant dreams =)

Sadly, if we could change it it wouldn't be part of the future and therefore we wouldn't see it. The future isn't set in stone, there are many possibilities. The things we see with precognition are things that are so likely that they can't be changed. I don't like it at all but that's the way it works.

However, I have had situations where I had a bad feeling about something and I warned someone I knew about it and they changed their plans and they themselves avoided the bad thing that happened. It still happened, but the person I warned wasn't there for it. I guess it's better than nothing right?

You can't change fate, but not everything is certain. In fact very few things are actually predetermined, that is why no matter how good you are at divination, sometimes the results will be confusing. That being said, if you see something horrible and are able to warn people you can feel free to try. I haven't had much luck maybe your experiences will be different.
