Contrary to what you see in Harry Potter, broomsticks don't fly.

The idea that Witches flew around on broomsticks was a misunderstanding based on the dreams experienced by those who used hallucinogenic flying ointments where the Witches claimed to have flown to their Sabbat rites on broomsticks. They never actually flew at all.

The broomsticks are used for sweeping, to sweep negativity from your circle. Sweep the pattern the sun follows.

Depends what you mean by "the old days". Many people believe that Moses actually parted the Red Sea; although I have no idea why he would have done such a thing. He could have walked out of Egypt before the Suez Canal was built. Joseph and Mary did, apparently. As did Abraham.
Or perhaps you believe that witches did actually fly on broomsticks? I would think that would be rather uncomfortable. Those sticks are a little thin!

The idea that witches fly on broom sticks stems form an old pagan tradition seen on Mid Summers. During the Mid Summer celebrations many pagans would take a broom, rake, or other tool with a long handle and mount it. Then they would run from one end of the fields to the other jumping and leaping as they went. This was to encourage the crops to grow taller. Onlookers that were not familiar with this practice thought the riders were trying to fly.

The witches flying ointment is another tradition that is misconstrued. This ointment was not meant to cause the broom or the witch to fly. The ointment contained compounds that when rubbed on the skin and was absorbed into the body caused hallucinations. This sometimes caused the person to feel like they were flying.

Personally I think that if one was to make a broom fly it would be an illusion mixed with the skill of levitation. As one would levitate and perhaps "fly" they would hold a broom underneath them self making it look as though they were riding the broom. The skill of levitation is not common and most who would active the skill through life long training would not waste their time doing tricks with it.

Minevraz, your 18. You have not near enough experience to call yourself 'vary powerful.'

Brysing is a lot more experienced than you, I do not know him personally but he probably has researched and been through trial-and-error alot more than you ever have. Yet he does not label himself powerful or experienced. He merely states his opinion and I doubt that he'd be wrong about this.
