Before buying any herb to prevent us from heart disease we should keep in mind that not all herbs are beneficial for the heart. Some can be harmful like the following:
L-arginine amino acid
Supplements for heart attack patients may do more harm than good. The amino acid is a precursor for nitric oxide, which has been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce blood clotting and protect against myocardial infarction and strokes. It has therefore been recommended to people with problems like angina, hypertension and heart failure. But a new study carried out at John Hopkins suggests a harmful role for the amino acid.

Betel Nuts
They cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, chest pain, irregular heartbeats, high or low blood pressure, and irregular heart beats. The effects of anticholinergic drugs may decrease when used in combination with betel nut or its constituent arecoline. Use with cholinergic drugs may cause toxicity (salivation, increased tearing, incontinence, sweating, diarrhea, vomiting, or fever).

This should not be used by people with blood pressure, diabetes or thyroid disease.

Of the above listed herbs I would highly recommend hawthorn. It can be taken in tablet or droplet form and has a lot of great health benefits. Hawthorn has been used as a heart medicine for hundreds of years. It's great for strengthening the heart and increasing circulation which helps to prevent heart attacks. Hawthorn is also very safe and mild.
