Is it really necessary to do magick at night?

Some practitioners believe that the influence of night will increase the power put into their spell. Not all spells need to be performed only at night. The practitioner usually feels a strong pull to the sun or to the moon to help them. I would cast your spells at the time of day you feel influences you the most. If a spell is specific to a time of day, it is usually posted within the instructions on how to properly cast it.
