No you dont. As long as your somewhere that your able to feel safe and alone and comfortable woth that place. The first few years i didnt have an alter i just had a space and a few thins that were personal to use, the only thing for me is that having an alter felt more meaningful to me and special. My first alter was a shelf then a box now its a table finally :) just do what you are confortable with.

I dont know about that sap thing, ive never heard of that before...

Why wouldnt you set up an altar? If you want a space to do work, then by all means.

You dont indicate if you are working with gods/goddess whatever...but yea, altar is nice to focus your work on.

As theo said an altar is a sacred space of working at. So if you feel you need to do so go for it. All it is, is a dedicated place for magical workings. It's a good idead because somethings do indeed take a span of time to complete.

My teacher is teaching me about the craft; heceforth my knowledge is learned from another. However we do have an altar ourselves.
