How to self teach?

Hey there! Do any of you have any good resources for self teaching that are outside SoM? I feel that this is the best way for me to go for right now and am kind of clueless on where to start. So far the website has proven to be very helpful but more resources would be appreciated!

True Magick by Amber K
Beginner's Guide for The Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham.
To Ride a Silver Broomstick by Silver Ravenwolf.

All very good authors for self teaching.

Silver Ravenwolf is not a good author for a number of reasons that can be researched.

What are you trying to learn, Zayne? There are plenty of resources available if you know what you're looking for.

Well, right now I'm wanting to develop my tarot skills, and psychic abilities. I'm also wanting to learn everything about white magic as possible. What comes to mind right now is getting better at protection, defense, shielding, etc.

most tarot decks come with a book specific to the deck, get one of these and memorize it. i suggest taking one card each day, study it [look at it in detail, read the description in the book] meditate with the card, carry it around with you, reflect on its meaning, and write down your personal feelings about the card in question. this will help you get a feel for each card and a better understanding.

magick has no colour, only intent, so try finding a book teaching about magick in general, what it is, how to connect with it, how to cast spells, that sort of thing. to borrow from Lark,

"Before You Cast a Spell" by Carl McColman

"Spells and How They Work" by Janet and Stewart Farrar

i've read those two, very good.

Books I would recommend for Tarot:

78 degrees of Wisdom by Rachel Pollack.

The Qabalistic Tarot by Robert Wang.

The Book of Thoth by Aleister Crowley.

The Tarot by Paul Foster Case.

Psychic Abilities:

These come with time and vary in what it is you exactly want to achieve, I cannot think of specific books aimed at this topic alone. Honestly, they come with practice and time and can be developed in a number of ways. You would have to be more specific as to what you are looking for in that respect.

As for 'white' magic:

Christopher Penczaks "Temple of Witchcraft" series are pretty good for a beginner, more Wiccan, but seeing as you posted in the Wicca subforum I assume you are of that variety. He also points you to other works.

Then of course you have the works of Doreen Valiente to explore, the farrar book mentioned above is good too as is their "Witche's Bible".

And as a ritual magician, I would be remiss if I did not recommend Modern Magick by Donald Michael Kraig, and "The One Year Manual" by Dr Israel Regardie. Kraig's reading list is beautiful too.

How about the wiccan bible? That is a good place to start and is easily found on amazon. Ann Marie- Gallagher is the author i think. There is also an idiots guide to wicca and witchcraft which although sounds silly gives a good overview on bits of everything whilst going into detail on bits such as magick and intent as well as visualization. I can't remember who it's by but you should be able to find it somewhere on amazon. You are however better going down to a store and have a look through some of the books there or looking online, try to get a feel for said book as i always think it's important to feel comfortable reading the book you've chosen.

I'm currently trying to obtain some Books of Shadows, and the one I currently possess is the Grimoire for the Green witch. Bought it in store from Barnes & Noble, and there is also a Golden Tarot ( which is very aesthetically appealing imo ) and I heard it has followed the rider waite system ( the template of all tarot cards, it seems? ) and is a good platform for beginners like me and you.

Some other people have reccomened me some occultist books but I doubt that may be what you are looking for.
