Gris Gris Bags
By:
Post # 1

Hello everyone. I've was speaking to a friend the other day about Gris Gris Bags, and I was wondering what might be some good herbs to put in them. I asked her, and she said she just put in whatever I had. This didn't sound quite right to me, so I decided to do a little search on google to see what are some good herbs.

Google had many herbs people use, but I was wondering if there was someone experienced in Voodoo/Vodou who might know what some good herbs are for a gris gris bag is? And what else, if any, should I put in one?

That all depends on the purpose of the bag.

Combine the following ingredients in a 2 x 3 red flannel bag to create a powerful protection gris gris.

* Dried toadstool top

* Camphor

* Piece of High John the Conqueror root

* Powdered jellyfish

* A hand drawn protection talisman

Recite, Psalm 44, as you're creating the bag.

Hold the bag in the palm of your hands with both hands closed together, bring the gris gris up to your mouth, and gently blow into the bag to activate it with your breath.

Soak the gris gris bag in whiskey every Friday to recharge it.

Hang the gris gris above the doorway to keep evil from entering your home.
Alternately, you can wear it around your neck from a leather cord, or in your pocket, on the right side if a man and on the left side if a woman.

And this is why it is vital to not take an author at their word, but to think and research.

Alverado has been repeatedly accused of providing half or completely false information just to make a buck. And that little...mess..confirms it for me.

The only thing in that list of ingredients that makes any sense is Camphor. Even High John makes little sense unless you're using it as a booster.
Powdered Jellyfish? Toadstool cap? Even the psalm choice is horrible. Since she left it as a general Psalm 44..here's an passage from it:

"But now you have rejected and humbled us;
you no longer go out with our armies.
10 You made us retreat before the enemy,
and our adversaries have plundered us.
11 You gave us up to be devoured like sheep
and have scattered us among the nations.
12 You sold your people for a pittance,
gaining nothing from their sale."

That doesn't sound very protective. At all.

And soaking an entire bag? Unnecessary when a little in the corners is enough to feed it. Soaking it is over kill, especially if you plan to wear it - Unless ya like going to school or the work place smelling like you just got out of the bar (which if you wear it under your cloths like ya should, you couldn't show anyone what the smell was coming from as the object is for it to be hid)

Not snapping on the one who posted it..just snapping that this existed TO post.

Just..no. No to her all around.
