From what I've learned, Lucifer is a fallen angel. Fallen angels are, in Christianity, the ones that rebel against God. God casts them out of Heaven, or they either chose to leave themselves.
Since Lucifer rebelled against God in the bible, The Lord cast him out of Heaven and Lucifer wanted his own power thus making him a fallen angel.

In a way. Lucifer is the Devil, and the Devil is a fallen angel but he's different than most fallen angels in the way of his power and his craving for it.

Now to confuse you.

There is another Lucifer, he is the light bringer. He is the lover of the Goddess Aradia, I believe. He is often confused with the Christian fallen Angel, but is not connected to him.

The biblical Lucifer is also called light bringer. It's said he was the most beautiful, most favored, most powerful, etc... angel which led to his vain belief he was better than God. As a result of this vanity he led a revolt that ended in his cast out of heaven along with those who sided with him/fought along side him.

Lucifer is an ancient God of light!
The "fallen angel" idea is just a "story" in order to teach that if you rebel against God, you will be punished; "cast out".

This is a bit of a tangent, but I've always been rather mystified as to the concept of the "rebellious angel."

Man was given a soul, and with the soul comes free will.

Angels, while existing before man, did not have this free will. It was a gift of God, to men.

So then, if lacking free will, how does an angel rebel unless he is instructed to do so?

And if he was instructed to do so, does he remain evil?

But then these concepts are so confused by Hebrew and Christian politics and mythologies that I rather doubt this is how it was all first conceived.
