Depending on which Native tribe's tradition you choose to follow, you will learn stories of how Tobacco came to the People and is held as Sacred.
Some legends say it was a gift from one of the Spirits of the 4 directions, along with sage, cedar, and sweetgrass. Others say it was given by a Spirit come from the Great Mystery (Wakan Tanka) such as Buffalo Calf Woman.

Tobacco is held as sacred because it is the plant which connects this world with the Spirit World through it's smoke. Although many tribes use various plants or combinations of plants in smoking, but wild Tobacco is the primary plant of legend.

Regardless of which tradition you choose to follow, be aware of your actions and thoughts when smoking to send messages to the Spirits.

Many of us have become numb to the sacredness of Tobacco because of cigarrettes and the giant tobacco industry in the U.S. and elsewhere. But, Native Tobacco is not this same processed mix so it is easy to keep your mind proper between the two.

Hope you enjoyed this info.
