Anybody know what magic items a beginner like me should start off with? Maybe a wand or an amulet or something?

No items are required for magic work. Many are listed that will help you get mentally ready, perhaps even help you focus and concentrate. If you want to buy a few, choose ones you may use or better yet make them yourself.

Any suggestions? I don't think I'd be able to make any. Is there anything in the shop that would be good to start off with?

In my opinion a begginer only needs books and resources to learn.
That being said, I always suggest making your own (as mentioned in the above comment) because you are spending money on something you may not need.
Then, when you are more experienced and you find there are things that are really useful and helpful, you buy them.

Yeah but I don't know the first thing about making this kinda stuff. Plus, I was thinking maybe some sort of beginner's book or something. Anything like that in the shop? IF not, any recommendations?

Use the internet, amazon is a good place to find beginner books, especially in the pre-owned section.

Beginner books tend to vary based on your path, so I would have a look around and see what you can find.

As I have said, it depends on your desired path, some books are universal but it is up to you which ones you would be interested in.

Do the footwork, most of us didn't get it on a silver plater and we did fine.

As H2O said, it varys with your path. So maybe you should do some research on paths and religions (not always the same thing) and see what interests you. From there, browse for books. Some will pick a path to study and then, when they feel its not for them or simply have curiosity they pick another path to study
