Misunderstood

A lot of Christian label many things they aren't familiar with religiously as something related to evil. I remember one time one of my family members bought me a mythology book, but my mom put it away because her godfather said it was the devil. I mean, seriously, how ridiculous does that sound?Fell free to talk about similar situations or discuss this one here.

It is not just Christians who have this problem. There are people of all faiths that claim things evil that they do not understand or that does not sit well with their beliefs. Let us not pick out one particular group to throw accusations at. We should not expect tolerance when we do not give tolerance. I have always always liked the words of Ghandi.."be the change you want to see in the world"

Can't agree more. Many religions do that.-_- Christians are just blamed more because there are more of them.

I find that many people completly misunderstand the whole concept, it is merely human nature to automatically reject an idea that we don't know or understand. Many people are blinded by preconcepted ideas placed into their mind from early in life due to strict religious practices or parents who are religious. Relitives and friends may scorn you for partaking and practicing the occult claiming it to be the Devil's work or to be Satanic and evil, what many don't know is that witchcraft is an extremly old practice that has been used for several milleniums. In the old days almost everybody used it for anything from assisting everyday life to wishing for luck and prosperity. It is not evil unless you make it so, few are harmed due to practicing this. Have you seriously ever seen someone burst into flames and die because you performed a good luck spell, smudged sage, or blessed your home? I think not.
People do not wish to face fact or truth, they wish to cling obsessivly to their make beleive fantasies and self-ritcheous holy-wars, I do not beleive people will ever change the way they veiw us and our society nor do I wish they do. Clarity is good but it is our scarcity that makes us apriciate what we have.

I'm very tolerant of the intolorent since I'm a gay/bi/lesbian supporter and a wiccan I must learn to tolerate many and not to hate but hope that others see the errors of their ways by hiding behind religon to further "justify" their pregidous ways. I for one have had a strict mother that thought one of my game books was a satanic book since there was no words and just a tri-force and claws(legend of zelda), but now she has become an almost compleatly unstrict mother and also practices Wicca mixed in with a bit of christianity, an odd mix but it works somehow. I once opened the idea of talking to one of my friends(a chrisitan) about Wicca and he had compleatly ignored the idea of it and said I should seek mental and spiritual help, this had compleatly made me mad and I decided to help him see the error of his ways(while trying to be tolerant of his ignorance) by explaining to him what Wicca is exactly, and now that he understands it he decided to still be my friend and not be a jerk about it.

@ Nightcreatur: I know right? I bet if I were to show her my Magic the Gathering cards (and they pretty much don't have anything to do with witchcraft in real life at all) I bet she would take them away too... -.-
