Halloween spells?
By:
Since this is my first Halloween being a witch, I want to make this Halloween special. I'm going out with my friends for trick or treating, and then I'll be coming back late to my house. So any spells I can cast during that time?

I would suggest a small ritualistic offering to the dead. You could go outside and lite a small candle, think of anyone you knew whom passed on, and intone that you wish anyone who has perished during the year peace in their journey and sacrifice either a small bit of red wine as a libation or an apple. Honey can also work well.

If you Really want to you can do this in a cemetary. Be very Very respectful, ask permission to enter from the Keeper of the Graves (watch for a sign, wind picking up, whispers, ect)and very clearly state your intent and respect.

If you do go to a cemetary, after you are beyond the gates take time to do a cleansing or shielding/warding to ensure no spirits decide to follow you home. You can also take offerings of flowers or pennies to a graveyard.

In the Witch's Wheel of the Year, Samhain is the cross-quarter holiday that is celebrated anytime between October 31st and November 6th.

Try researching more of it to get an idea of how it was celebrated the Pagan way.

It's not necessarily a spell, but leaving an offering to the other realm like milk and honey, or a honey cake (or even some of your halloween candy) in a place close to nature could be a good practice, in keeping within the idea of Samhain.

I know this is an old post, but maybe you can do what the ancient Egyptians did? The ancient Egyptians went into old abandoned/neglected graveyards and wrote a wish on a note and buried it in the dirt in the cemetery. Because the graveyard was neglected, the spirits longed for human contact. They gladly granted the wish of anybody who came to visit them.

The Jews carried that ritual from the ancient Egyptians and still practice it to this day. There are places in Israel where old abandoned cemeteries found with letters scattered everywhere.

I would combine this ritual with the other rituals provided to create a very powerful spell. Good luck!

well i would research Samhain, so you understand the holiday. communicating with spirits [avoid a Ouija Board please] is a fun past time at this time of year. mostly Samhain is full of divination such, and from what i've studied, a lot of love divination. things like bobbing for apples were once a way to see who would be lucky in love the coming year. at midnight, people would go to lakes, ponds or other still bodies of water, and gaze into the water with a candle or the moon as light. the person you were going to marry was said to appear in the water. same with looking into a mirror, it is said the person will behind you over your shoulder. [left i think]

my coven doesn't do much spell casting, and Samhain is a somber affair where we speak with our departed loved ones, but also make resolutions for the following year. if we do cast any spells, its to help with removing bad habits and/or obstacles. we also do tarot readings for each other.
