You might find more information on this topic if you would use the correct word for it. That way you could do a Google search and probably find lots of information to answer your question.

Automation - "the use of largely automatic equipment in a system of manufacturing or other production process."

Automaton - "a moving mechanical device made in imitation of a human being. A machine that performs a function according to a predetermined set of coded instructions."

So an Automaton is by definition a machine and not something that contains a soul, human or otherwise, and it is manufactured through the use of science, not magic.

On the other hand, there are magical creations along the line of what you are describing. You can find more information on SOM and other sites of some of these created beings:

Tulpa - also translated as "magical emanation", "conjured thing" and "phantom" is a concept in mysticism of a being or object which is created through sheer spiritual or mental discipline alone.

Shawabtis - The clay figurines found in Egyptian tombs whose spirits served the soul of the departed in the afterlife.

Servitors - A Servitor is an entity consciously created or generated, using evocatory techniques, to perform a task or service.

Artificial Elementals beings which were animated with the power of a particular classical Element (earth, air, water, or fire) to carry out the Will of the magicians who created them.

Thought-Forms - Similar in creation and action to Servitors
