wonder what the odds are of Pet installing a public chat just for the socializing aspect, and keep the other public one open for magick?

just a thought.

It would probably take some work, but this is a very good idea indeed.

Sometimes magical chatter can inadvertently change to social chatter though, which would be a little issue.

In conclusion, this would be a great idea, nice suggestion.

It is a great idea for the most part. Chatters seem to move between the two very often, some sticking on one more than the other. I think however that it would continue even if there were a separate chatter. People have the option of personal messaging each other to keep their socializing out of the main part of chatter but I dont see them doing so very often.

our older members might remember that we had that very system a couple of years ago. It just did not work, so we have evolved into our current chatter.

Linda is right it didn't work at all, was rather a bigger confusing mess. I guess the older members could show by example, and encourage newer members to take plain social butterfly interactions to PM's. Thus not having to make any drastic chatter changes and achieving the needed goal.

(Which means I need to follow my own advice *facepalms* )

We don't particularly have grounds to blame the lack the oftwo chats being the reason for this issue seeing as it is a rule that members use the chat for magic topics. How strictly that rule is applied is entirely up to those enforcing it.

Yes, the second chat could have a test of sorts to qualify a username to chat there.. that could work.

Sorry Joule, but I think that is a terrible idea. What if a newbie who wanted to learn about magic couldn't go into the magic chatter because they didnt 'qualify'? You see the issue here?

Also, some good points have been raised. Having two chats would be a little confusing to some.
