Here's a list of books that no aspiring occultist should be without.
Some are classical and critical books, others contain information on the physical and psychological aspects of magic. Some aren't books of magic at all, but will as prove invaluable to any practitioner.
  • Arbatel
  • The Key of Soloman
  • Picatrix: Liber Atratus Edition
  • Ars Notoria
  • Grimorium Verum
  • Voynich Manuscript (Worth A Look)
  • Sexual Alchemy
  • Sorcerer's Secrets
  • Real Alchemy: A Primer of Practical Alchemy
  • The New Age Herbalist
  • The Book of Soyga
  • On the Writing of the Insane
  • The Oera Linda
  • Devils, Demons and Dangerous Creatures of the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum
  • Ars Vercanus: Advanced Magickal Techniques
  • Liber Noctis: A Handbook of the Sorcerer's Arte
  • The Secrets of High Magic
  • The Book of Black Magic
  • Even I haven't gotten through all of them in their entireity yet, together they cover quite an extensive field of catagories.

Not sure how useful the Voynich Manuscript would be given that no one can read it. It's nifty, sure, but not terribly helpful.

Plus many of these seem to grimoires, so useful for someone looking to get into high ritual magic, but not so much for someone doing something less ritual.

I kind of dig Judika Illes' Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells, it has a bit of a bad habit of listing correspondences as spells on their own and it's a little light on explanations for a number of things, but it's a good started book if you have the understanding that you'll want to do your own research as well.

Penczak's City Magic is pretty good too, especially if you're just starting out or just moved from the country to a city. It has something of a Wiccan bent, most of his books do, but that can be worked around pretty easily.

The " Oera Linda book " is a known forgery and known to be fake so I'm not certain it is useful either.
