Ancestors

Who are our Ancestors? Ancestors our blood relatives who have passed away into the next life. This could be a person who we dearly beloved during our lives before they died or a someone who we might not know much at all. For the ones that hated you might not be smart to work with. It could be your lovable grandmother who always baked your favorite sugar coated cookies each night after church, or you funny uncle who always cheered you up and made you laugh every second he was in the room. Who ever it may be make sure it will be the person you cherished the most time with when they were alive.

Ancestors are great to work with by replenishing our love and relationships with the dead to honor what they did during our lives. Ancestral magick is also a good way to conquer our fear of death and to rather accept our fate as human beings, Just think about without death we wouldn't be able to reunite with our love ones we missed so much while we were alive.

Ancestors can guide us and help us with everyday issues and you don't even need a spell to do so. All you need is your voice and love. Ask for permission if one of your ancestral spirits can help you and if they can show them your love by fixing something they enjoyed during life. This can be music, food, objects, or anything you can use to make that certain bond like you did while they were alive.

If you need help with something that is more than an serious, you can perform a ritual with the power of your ancestors. Do this by what I call invoking the current, or what others may call it ancestral energy. Ask an ancestor to help you to find love, get money, or even get back at a bully at school. But to do this like I said before you need that certain spirit’s permission. If they are willing to do so and they do it give them thanks by leaving an offering on either their gravesite, on your altar, or even at the crossroads.

It might not be a good idea to work with an ancestor who had troubles with another person you work with because that may cause some issues. Like for instance my grandfather’s father. My family could of been filthy rich if my great grandad didn't abandon him and his family when he was young, taking all the money and keeping it to himself. If I posted a picture on my wall with him with my grandpa that could start a predicament.

Its also a good idea before doing any type of spirit work to have assistance before doing any magick so that if an incident happened you’ll have some back up to support you. Ancestors who loved you dearly while they were alive wouldnt let a single hair on your chin to be mistreated if you were in a situation. They will try their best to reconcile your problem.

If you needed help from losing your house and had nobody else to turn to, why not try your dead aunt who was the landlord of that very house you live in. Ancestors can help with any problem if treated with respect and love.

Any ancestor can help you with a problem especially if they were skilled at a certain profession. If you had one who was a bodybuilder invoke their energies like you would for a god or goddess and you may have the solution to problem, that is if you're willing to body build.

Ancestors can help you with alot of issues if treated correctly. If you don't know how to talk to one just put both of your hands together and you can pray to them. Talk to them like they were still alive by treating and acting like if they were still their. Dont act shy even if you haven't seen them in a while act like how you normally do with them.

If you want to work with an ancestor but don't know them that well, you could always ask an alive relative what they they were like when they were alive. Its always best to ask what their favorite foods were, drinks, stuff they like, or even what age or when did they die. It will help you on the way to know this stuff.

Ancestors are always there for us, as we should be for them, for their is always a special place in our heart for our beloved ones who have come to passed. If we take some time and love to dedicate an altar to them I’m for sure the ones you kept closest to your heart will appear and will want to work with you.

I hope you found some great information on this thread I posted, I especially hope to see some more ancestor venerators on this website. If you would like me to post more, comment below and I will try my best to do so.

Thank You And Have A Nice Day!

I really don't like replying to somebody with no profile! But this one needs a reply.
You don't seem to understand what an ancestor is! An ancestor is not only your favourite Granny who has died! Your ancestors are also the long dead! If you go back far enough we are all related to each other. We are the species of human animal, and so our "ancestors" are every human that ever drew breath!

I agree with Brysing... the higher back in time, the largest number of ancestors. And what's better! the larger number of common ancestors.
Traditionally the contact with ancestors (in a broad sense) has been used for many purposes: futurology, acquiring new powers, astral guidance, etc.
So you're not on a bad way of thinking. Just deepen your reflection and you'll be able to find many profits with enhancing these contacts.

I am going through an odd phase of 'faith' as of late. I reached out to my ancestors a few weeks back, not just the one's I knew.

The experience was very personal, felt very peaceful. Brought me close to tears at one point. (I am not bothered what people say, men do cry!)

Also felt some odd sensations around me. Of course, feelings and experiences are nothing to anyone else, but to me, it was a powerful experience that will stick in my memory- even when I revert back to skepticism.

I think you have an odd opinion of what an ancestor is Brysing sure you may believe that we all come from the same boat. But I was talking about people who had died in your family, your blood line which is an ancestor. If you don't know what im trying to explain is that we can work with our ancestors in out spellwork and ask them to help us in out daily affairs just like in hoodoo how they ask the saints for help for certain issues. Saints are dead people and they can help you just like how othe dead people can help also. I respect your opinion but it is not fact and neither is mine. I hope you can try to see what im getting at here

Woops sorry about that comment Bry its just that I dint read your last part. This post was about ancestors who you knew or other people knew before they died. I agree that there our long ancestors from distant past but it would be hard to find some info on them if they don't have family member from the 18th century who is still alive. Its just more easier to work with one you knew cause they most likely knew you better and possibly loved you alot more than what your great x5 grandmother who knows nothing about you. I respect your opinion to reach out into further ancestry but thats the person choice to do so. Its just easier to talk to one if they knew you in real life before they passed away. If you would like I would make a post about more in depth about further ancestry if you like :)

I agree with all the post's above, especially Bryson's.

Ancestors aren't just one or two people, if we go way way back far enough, we end up realizing that in reality were all somehow connected. In all religion's we have a creation myth, say for the christian bible for example. ''There were only animals in the world, so god created Adam, and Eve. Adam, and eve were equal, and had kids, now further down those kids, had even more kids. Eventually it got to what we know as today. You see my point here? Were all connected, not just your family, we may be connected from past's, or in life.''

Another example is the big bang theory, or the polytheistic times. In the big bang, we started as cells, then progressed until we reached human. Same as say polytheistic. We were first apes, which honestly isn't ''weird'' at all. We progressed learning, and progressing.

Were all related in some shape, form, or place. Maybe ten years from now, you'll be telling your kids about this.

I hoped this helped, and good post's everyone. Blessed be, have a good day!

Ancestor work is a great experience for any starting out spirit work and essential to many paths, including my own. There are many dos and donts in this kind of work and much of it can be UPG, but putting out misleading information isnt terribly helpful either. Such as dont over salt the meaty offering for your grandpa, is a good bit to know, but saying things like, It must done in such and such way, is counter-productive as it blocks out the desire to follow the intuition and listen to the ancestors. Here are my thoughts on this post:

Ancestors our blood relatives who have passed away into the next life.

I disagree here, ansector worship is a spiritual practice and many people have friends and spirit family. An example of spirit family? In Vodou, once one is initiated they gain many brothers, sisters, and a mother or father, aunts and uncles, and in some cases children. They are not blood related in the sense you are speaking, but they still go on the ancestor altar. Also, if one thinks about it, we are all most liikely distant cousins (at worst) .

For the ones that hated you might not be smart to work with.

Working with some one because you didnt like them in life, or they didnt like you, is childish. It can be a very theraputic practice that can lead to lots of healing. Why hold a grudge like that? Now, I wouldnt start by asking favors just honor them, communicate and build a relationship before you ask for help.

Ask for permission if one of your ancestral spirits can help you and if they can show them your love by fixing something they enjoyed during life. This can be music, food, objects, or anything

Probably the best part of the article! Yes, this is great! Work with and honor them. When you cook a dish for them invite them into the kitchen and tell them about your day. Avoid overusing salt though, as it can be disruptive to their energies, in my experience.

If they are willing to do so and they do it give them thanks by leaving an offering on either their gravesite, on your altar, or even at the crossroads.

The crossroads are a great place for disposal of magical items, but not so much for ancestor work. If you want them to watch over and maintain the work burying on or near their grave is best. People move and this is perfectly understandable, if you feel it is necessary you may dispose of it, but finding an appropriate place in the graveyard is recommended, in general. If you arent sure, ask your ancestors, allow them to guide you !

It might not be a good idea to work with an ancestor who had troubles with another person you work with because that may cause some issues .

Id ask for guidance on the before you completely shut out an acestor. When we die, it is a new perspective. Old hurts can be worked through and new bonds forged.

If you needed help from losing your house and had nobody else to turn to, why not try your dead aunt who was the landlord of that very house you live in. Ancestors can help with any problem if treated with respect and love. Any ancestor can help you with a problem especially if they were skilled at a certain profession.

Definitely good advice here, the specializations and skills of your ancestors make them appropriate in some situations, rather than others.

If you want to work with an ancestor but don't know them that well, you could always ask an alive relative what they they were like when they were alive. Its always best to ask what their favorite foods were, drinks, stuff they like, or even what age or when did they die. It will help you on the way to know this stuff.

Much of ancestor work can become UPG (Unverified Personal Gnosis) and that is fine. It is definitely good to have an aunt or two who knows the gossip on everybody, though.
