Hello...?

I am not a Wiccan and I have no inclination to ever become a Wiccan. I am... Polytheistic, shall we say? I've been performing magic for a couple of years now, but I know that I have a lot to learn, and I'm eager to see whether you have anything worthwhile to teach someone who shares few (if not none) of your beliefs.

I respect your views highly, but I have to disagree with your first statement. Wicca IS the ritual practice of magic. To say that you perform magic, yet desire to have nothing to do with Wicca is somewhat illogical.

The organised practice of ritual magic has existed for thousands of years longer than the organised religion known as Wicca. Wicca, interestingly enough, only came into being after the Inquisitions organised by the Church. Before that it was known as Paganism, which is almost the same thing but without the necessity of spirituality or the vegetarianism. The practice of Wicca involves using the power generated by the forgotten gods to empower a ritual circle. The ritual itself is not reliant on any gods, and is simply a focal point for spiritual energies. The energies used vary from person to person, but generally it is the energy granted to a ritual by the patron deity. I did begin my exploration into the occult in this manner, but I no longer feel reliant on the deities I worship (or the ones I believe in) to perform magic. My magic is simply the energy of my soul, or my astral body in New Age terms, given form by thought. If it is not, then the deities I worship (and/or believe in) are helping me without my request. I respect your beliefs, of course, and offer no insult, but in this case your statement, that Wicca is the ritual practice of magic, is wrong. There are several disciplines, particularly originating in the Middle East and East Asia, which perform types of ritual magic but are not Wiccan.

The inquisitions were a group within the jurisdictive system of the Roman Catholic Church that was founded in the 12th century. Paganism began roughly in 10,000 BC, when people were nomadic. Wicca, or modern Pagan, was established by Gerald Gardener in the beginning of the 20th century in England. The concept of his new Coven was similar to the practice of witchcraft dating back centuries before, but with various ideological changes. A good deal of mystical teachings, occult practices and Earth-Based philosophies were essentially merged and developed into a religious belief system. Needless to say, I hadn't stated that Wicca was the ONLY religion to use magic, but it is also a portion of Wicca. After all, magic comes in many forms, but from time to time it comes as: spells, songs, blessings, or chants using ones intent and energy.
