you need to study for a year and a day. that's pretty much it. granted wicca is the pursuit of knowledge, and no one's ever done studying but to be 'qualified' [not the right word, but it's close enough] to be considered a wiccan and to join the craft, you should know the basics, that's why in wicca we have the year and a day ceremony. in this year and a day [let's say starting from now] you must devote a portion of your time EVERY DAY [let's say minimum one hour to start] reading, researching, studying, and/or practicing wicca. it is encouraged to cast spells, but start small, like candle magic, and you should attend [if you have or know of a coven, if not you should yourself] every sabbat and full moon circle. it will teach you many things, and what better way to learn than to do? ostara's this month and the next full moon is in a week, so you should try at do both, if you can only cast for one, oastara would be better.

after your year and a day, you can do the initiation ceremony, and you're a wiccan. technically though, you become one once you say you are, but you should do the year and a day so you understand what this path is.

There are many books on Wicca. One of the best is "A Witches Bible" by Janet and Stewart Farrar. There are, though most people are not aware of it, still people alive who were with the founders of Wicca. Notably Maxine Sanders, the widow of Alex Sanders. She has a web-site. Why not contact her for advice. She will be pleased to hear from you. She is alive and well, and living in Wales.

Hi there, I?ve been practicing Wicca for a good many years now and one of the first questions that comes up is the one about where to start. My suggestion is always to start by doing some reading and studying to make certain that you understand what Wicca is really all about, and so that you can then decide whether this is truly the path that you want to follow. So with that in mind I thought I would offer some books and websites that are full of sound I information which can help you get started on your path.

To start with, here are some books that I would suggest.

''A Witch Alone'' by Marian Green
''The Elements of Ritual'' by Deborah Lipp
''Witchcrafting'' by Phyllis Curott
''21st Century Wicca'' by Jennifer Hunter
''Before You Cast a Spell'' by Carl McColman
''When, Why...If'' by Robin Wood
''Practical Pagan'' by Dana Eilers
''Wicca; A Year and a Day'' by Timothy Roderick

You can also find the recommended reading list that my coven uses at: http://www.tangledmoon.org/reading_list.htm

Here's some websites that you may find useful in helping you with questions.

Wicca is a way of life, it's either a set of beliefs or a set of practices or both.
It's a choice.

You don't have to be inducted to believe in something, you only have to inducted or accepted to join an establishment like a coven or church.
