Hello, I'm new and I was wondering can I really be a wizard? Like what does a wizard actually do?

yes. you can. alot of people like to believe that power is hereditary (in some cases it is) but most of the time, it is not. everybody has the power to do magick.
(the reason most people think it isnt hereditary is because they traced down their lineage to their greatest ancestor who did not have any magical powers and wondered why it all of a sudden ran in the family)

to answer your second question; Magick, Herbalism, Energy manipulation, Meditation, etc.

As far as I'm concerned, wizard is just a name for a magick user (it's technically male, but it can refer to anyone). Witch, sorcerer, warlock, and magician/mage all refer to someone who practices magick.

BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT. Before spells you should do your basics, you could just jump in, but you won't get much success for a few months (on average).

If you chose basics, which is the wiser choice, the basics are:
Meditation
Visualization
Grounding
Centering
Energy work
Shielding
and chakra work :)

Good luck.

Don't forget that the basics aren't necessarily the end-all, be-all. Basics make everything easier for you, and bring you to another place of understanding, however basics aren't always formally needed.

Case in point, I used meditation, visualization, and trance states long before I ever learned about magic. I could feel energy very well as a child and can remember having a few oddball experiences. I used a shielding technique before I called it shielding.

You can learn to use magic without calling it magic. It's natural and inborn for some. For others the basics are necessary. Keep that in mind while you learn.
