Depression after magick
By:
Hello. I started learning magick a few months back, and I really enjoy it. However when I practice too much, I get horrible headaches, exhaustion, and I feel a little depressed. Does anyone know a way to speed up recovery time after these intense (at least to me) magickal workouts? I really REALLY love doing magick, so the sooner I can get back to work the better.

Thank you :).

Sounds like your running out of energy and over exerting urself. Trying raising energy before you practice, then grounding when your done. This will help keep you in a balance point as well as help u not use your own energy.

Glim

The problem to me sounds as though you are not properly grounding before and after doing magic. If you are simply using your own energy to power your magical working and not replenishing that energy at the end of the working it is going to leave you in a state just as you described.

Grounding permits you to connect to the energy held within the Earth itself and to draw up that energy through you to power your magical work rather than using your personal energy. When you are finished with your working you may find that you have an excess of energy and this can be sent back into the Earth through your grounding connection.

Likewise if you are feeling a bit drained from a magical working you can use that same grounding connection to draw up a bit of extra energy into yourself once you have stopped sending out energy in your spellwork.

Here's a link to something I wrote on grounding and Centering that you might find useful. Just be sure to take out the extra space to get the link to work: http://www.wiccantogether.com/profiles/blogs/1070680:BlogPost:365390

I tried doing this, but my magick doesn't feel as strong. Is this just temporary, or am I not doing it right?

I agree with the others who have commented here. However, I wish to elaborate a little bit further. It might b more than just an issue of not grounding before doing magick. What kind of magick do u practice the most (plz dont answer back white or black magick bc in reality they dont exist bc one can become the other), are you sending out more positive or negative energy when u cast spells? The reason I ask is bc in reality u need a balance of positive and negative bc ne time u cast a spell u are sending out energy and that energy has to go somewhere, but the energy u send out will eventually come back to you. Maybe you are not balancing the energies you are sending out as well...another thing to keep in mind though Marbleless is that magick is supposed to be used respectfully and it is not supposed to be used as a crutch to get every little thing you desire...maybe u should consider pacing yourself more and coming to truly respect the effects of the spells that you cast...

If you are grounding and linking to the energy of the Earth and it feels weaker than when you use your own energy then it is likely that you aren't doing it correctly. Think of yourself as a conduit or a hose or channel through which the energy flows. You can turn the tap on to let more energy through or turn it the other way to let less through. But if you are grounding correctly to connect to the energy it should be more powerful, not less.

I totally agree with Lark, the issue sounds as if you are not grounding correctly.
