Narrow minded

Why are some people on SoM so narrow minded about people who think they are not human spiritually? I get that people cannot be physically anything but human. I myself don't identify as anything but human, but I thought I was for a while, because I have astral wings. I can understand and be accepting to people who feel that way. I feel like we don't have an attitude of acceptance on this topic, and I wish we did.

I agree, some people lack of fantasy. I feel like my spirit is angelic. This can be understood literally or fictionally. What I mean by being angelic is that I have angelic characteristics. Narrow minded people do not have the capacity to expand their view on things.

What do you feel like your spirit is?

I don't think they're narrow minded just very jaded. There have been a lot of rpers on this site in the past that were less than respectful. still no reason to bite someones head off about it.

Lol, i can see that. I myself often visualize having a fuzzy long tail, but i dare not claim to be something everyone knows i am not. Im sure there are plenty of sites that support role play elsewhere. I understand membership is free, but that doesn't mean the site is meant for Fluffy bunnies. The chatter rules agreed upon should be a big clue.

Well, considering my own openness about my personal perceptions, I can honestly say that this site is not so bad. The main issue is when the topic turns to unrealistic or outright delusional beliefs and practices. Like the idea of physically becoming something other than human or swapping genders or physically teleporting yourself to another place or plane.

Fluffy thought is fluffy regardless of the nature of the person who commits to it. And I have seen the reactions to be blunt- to be sure. But not unfair, fallacious, or violent. The expectation is just to have a dose of proper perspective, and to maintain one's grounding in reality. So the typical response to someone who seems a bit out of touch is very similar to those who come on here looking for the ability to bend metal bars with their mind. That is to advise on the limits of magic, the nature of reality, and to advise on new directions of thought.

The rest is just a function of human nature. We are all people, talking and dealing with other people. So personal attitude and thought are a big factor, and both can be dramatically different from individual to individual.

I see exactly what you mean. I'm open to the idea that one's soul may carry traits from "mythological" creatures. If I say that in simpler terms on any thread, such as, "I am half-wolf." Multiple people are quick to shut that down. Speaking for myself, I feel from my own energy a subtle "shift" that says my soul has not only inhabited this human body. How is that wrong? I'm not claiming I can transform into anything, obviously I can't based on the scientific knowledge we have available to any one of us. But there is no legitimate basis for saying that one's soul has or has not been in a vessel that wasn't human. On this site I've seen the topic brought up, and then, without trying to understand the OP's perspective, people shut them down.

well, you could argue hive mind, where one person says something and people who respect said user want to agree with them, but i think it's because people don't typically specify it's 'spiritual' not 'physical'.

personally, i have zero tolerance for roleplaying on this site [i'm an otaku, i'm into nerdy things, i've played D&D, and i'm good friends with some people who run a pretty large LARP, so i don't hate RPG, there's just no place for it here. i feel disrespected when i see it here] with that said, if someone posting they were an otherkin, they felt their spirit wasn't human, or that in the astral they were something else, i'm fine with that because it's a spiritual belief and i don't feel it's my place to say your spiritual views are wrong. if you said 'i'm a real life werewolf' i will loose it [to the limit of the forum rules anyway lol]

the community as a whole however does have some issues with mob mentality. witches [whatever you call yourself] are some of the nicest and accepting people i've met... to a point. on average witches are very welcoming, until you cross a taboo [at least, according to the majority of witches] i've seen a number of them [and in my youth joined in on a few... pardon the expression... witch hunts] when i joined the site, most witches i knew [and i agreed with because i was new therefore they knew best] hated Silver Ravenwolf, and anyone who actually liked her with [with the possible exception of To Ride a Silver Broomstick, but even then it wasn't all that great] you were a fluffy bunny. [i'm still not a Ravenwolf fan, but i'm not about to write you off simply because you read her book. that's called growth lol] the other one when i started, love spells were fine, now majority of witches will say 'if you're taking away their free will it's black magick'. and the biggest thorn in my side [which pains me to say my favourite pagan author is guilty of this. why Blake?!] when people say 'real witches do not cast spells to harm'. if you curse, or cast a love spell on someone, you are not a 'real witch' because you are going against the Rede [which isn't something all witches observe, the Rede is from the Wiccan religion, not a universal law] and therefore are giving us witches a bad name. i've spoken out on that point as magick isn't black and white, and there are many paths who work curses and the practitioners aren't doomed by negative effects, and it's resulted in people turning on me. [and a mob of people calling you names can be rather overwhelming, so i suggest picking your battles]

Agreed with both of you on all counts. especially with the idea 'pick your battles'. I suppose that is why one of the marks of wisdom is silence. Knowing when it is worthwhile talking about certain topics, and when it is more worth it to not worry about trying to make others recognize something out of a need for validation.

In all honesty, it is pretty rare for the otherkin topics to be immediately relevant to most conversations around these parts anyways. it can offer some unique perspectives on things, but what one connects with on a soul level has pretty minimal effect outside of personal visualizations and predispositions.
