Tarot Protection?

So I've recently gotten my first tarot deck and I bought a book on how to use it. In this book, it says how to 'Protect' the cards (wrap it in silk), but it doesn't say what the protection is for. So I must ask...
What's the purpose of protecting tarot cards?

Weird with the silk.

Odds are it means protecting the cards in a physical sense. Like keeping the cards in a box when not using them, making sure no water gets on them, all that good stuff.

They make card sleeves.

I can't say I've heard of silk being used for protection in a "spiritual" sense. Seems rather silly when other things can be used.

It is said that to wrap cards in silk is to stop lingering energies from effecting the cards, such as negative energy from an argument. These negative energies can effect your cards and so it is said that protecting them with silk can stop this.

Whether you believe that or not is up to you, but it is always good to keep your cards in something for physical protection as well.
