They're not vampire "species". They're different folklore stories about dead things that feed of the living.

Moroi- A romanian story of a ghost or a phantom that steals energy from the living.

Dhampir- A word from Balkan folklore describing the child of a human and a "vampire" (although depending on the time period vampires are characterised in very different ways)

Strigoi- Another romanian story that is probably the most recognisable since it's essentially Bram Stoker's Dracula. Corpse rises from the grave to feed on the living, can become invisible and transform into animals (most notably wolves, rats and bats) and is considered to be immortal.

While dhampir is just an invention from Vampire Academy, Moroi and Strigoi are a part of my country's lore and legends.

They are possible things one could turn into after they die if they don't make it to the other world (that to give you the short explanation. The whole legend is much longer.)

If you wish to know more about it then don't hesitate to ask.

Dhampir is a much older term than Vampire Academy or Twilight. Like many old words though, it's been hijacked by popular fiction.

Its more of mythology, and was also the three types of vampires in a books series.

Vampires are not "species", as in physical things.

The vampire stems from shades, ghosts that linger on, tying to hold their etheric forms together by feeding on life energy. This is commonly called an etheric revenant.

Dhampires are part of my country folklore. Actually one professor of my faculty has the surname "Dhampire " he is very smart, and works part time to the Academy of science but he is very mean too. So according to us he " can have a family secret" about this surname but nine has the courage. I admit, me neither.
