Looking for good Books
By:
Hey everyone, i'm looking for a goodbook on wicca, something that is more in depth and has more information then a beginner's book. I have already read the beginner's solitary in wicc by Scott Cunningham. I just need some suggestions on books with more info than a beginner's book because I want to learn more in depth. If you have any titles I would greatly appreciate them to look into.

I'm not Wiccan myself, but Wiccan books are where I started with over half a decade ago, so I have some recommendations. Now, most wiccan books are beginner 101 books, so when you are trying to get to the more advanced Wicca books, there is a very small range of things, especially compared to other paths. My biggest advice is look at books important to the origins of Wicca as it is today. Also, look at other paths as well, and most importantly. Wicca as I've heard, is about experiencing mostly, and evolving with those experiences.

* Recommended Wiccan Books

- A Witches’ Bible: The Complete Witches’ Handbook

- Charge of the Goddess by Doreen Valiente

- The Spiral Dance: A Rebirth of the Ancient Religion of the Great Goddess [This book should serve largely as an inspirational text, as the Goddess Cult theory is since outdated and disproven, but there is still very relevant information here]

- Drawing Down the Moon: Witches, Druids, Goddess-Worshippers, and Other Pagans in America Today by Margot Adler

* Non-Wiccan

- Aradia: Gospel of the Witches by Charles Leland
[This is a inspiration text, and is not historically accurate]

- Evolutionary Witchcraft By T. Thorn Coyle [This is Feri or Feri Wicca]

- Mastering Witchcraft By Paul Huson

- Trading the Mill: Practical Craft in Modern Traditional Witchcraft By Nigel Pearson

- Her Hidden Children: The Rise of Wicca and Paganism in America By Chas S. Clifton

- Anything by Crowley [Thelema hares its origins with Wicca in the Golden Dawn, and so Wicca and Thelema are cousins essentially]

I have to comment on the thing written about Thelema above. Thelema and Wicca may very well share the same roots, but I would not call them cousins, Thelema, before Americanised, was a philosophy which did not have practices outlined: magick and mysticism being one path of many.

As far as I know Gardner was never a member of the Golden Dawn, he learned his Golden Dawn material from Crowley's OTO and Regardie's publiciation of the Golden Dawn material. I will just be honest, from what I see of Wicca and Wiccans all of their rituals and ideas are watered down Crowley et al with morals and ethics added in.

I am of course not an initiate of a coven so no idea what is privately discussed.

Personally in terms of Wicca and the Western Mystery Tradition in general I would look at the Cicero's Golden Dawn stuff, Crowley's Liber ABA, and the grandfather of Western Occultism- Agrippa.

I'm in the same boat but I can tell you what other Occultists and some Wiccans have reccomended me:
Necronomicon
The Kybalion
The The Key of Solomon the King Clavicula Salomonis
The Magus

Mostly Occultism, but I hope I can help!
Blessed Be

For those of you who have been practicing Wicca for a number of years and who want to move beyond the Wicca 101 books here are some books that I'd suggest:

" Castings " by Ivo Dominguez

" A Study of Witchcraft " by Deborah Lipp

" Devoted to You " by Judy Harrow

" The Elements of Ritual " by Deborah Lipp

" The Other Side of Virtue " by Brendan Myers

" Covensense " by Patricia Crowther

" Wicca Coven s" by Judy Harrow

" Gerald Gardner and the Cauldron of Inspiration " by Phillip Heselton

" Witch Fathe r" by Phillip Heselton

" Religion Without Beliefs " by Fred Lamond

" Spiritual Mentoring " by Judy Harrow

"T he Pagan Book of Living and Dying " by Starhawk and M. Macha Nightmare

Remember though that once you get beyond basic books on Wicca some of the best reading you will do won't necessarily be in books on Wicca but books on other topics that relate to your spiritual practices. Here's some other reading that I'd recommend:

Theology:

" Pagan Theology; Paganism as a World Religion " by Michael York

" A World Full of Gods: An Inquiry into Polytheism " by John Michael Greer

" The Deities Are Many: A Polytheistic Theology " by Jordan D. Paper

Ethics:

" When, Why...If " by Robin Wood

"An Ye Harm None: Magical Morality and Modern Ethic s" by Shelley Rabinovitch & Meredith MacDonald

" Living with Honou r" by Emma Restall Orr

" The Other Side of Virtue " by Brendan Myers

" Ethics for the New Millennium " by the Dalai Lama

Living Mindfully:

" The Miracle of Mindfulness " by Thich Nhat Hanh

" Living the Mindful Life " by Charles Tart

History:

" Pagan Religions of the Ancient British Isles " by Ronald Hutton

" Stations of the Sun " by Ronald Hutton

" Triumph of the Moon " by Ronald Hutton

Personal Transformation:

" Make Magic of Your Life: Passion, Purpose, and the Power of Desire " by T. Thorn Coyle

" Kissing the Limitless " by T. Thorn Coyle

Magick:

" Modern Magick " by Donald Michael Kraig

" The Veil's Edg e" by Willow Polson

" The Path Through the Labyrinth " by Marian Green
