Amulets

An Amulet is an object, ether worn as ornamentation or used decoratively around the home, which have been enchanted with a spell or charged with one's energy, with the intent, or specific purpose of protecting someone or something from negative energy, evil, or harm.An example of one such amulet that protects from harm is the common pentagram or pentacle. The word 'amulet' comes from the Latin word amuletum which means "an object that protects a person from trouble." Amulets are one of the oldest known magickal items known. For thousands of years, they have been used to help protect individuals, homes, and even objects. The Crucifix, in the Christianity religion, is one of the more known amulets (although not really referred to as an amulet) symbolizes Jesus' victory over every evil. Holy Water, to Catholics, represents a force that repels evil. There are many amulets used today.

Talismans

A talisman is an object which is believed to contain certain magickal properties which would provide good luck for the possessor and possibly offer protection against evil or harm. They are objects crafted to draw something to you, often enchanted and charged to draw good luck, power, improved health or any other similar objective. The main idea of a talisman is to draw something to you. Another form of a talisman, which is quite common, is called a Satchet, it can be a small cloth or small cloth (or not cloth at all) spell bag that is filled with specific herbs, stones, parchment sigils, markings, or other meaningful objects which have been cleansed, blessed and charged together for a specific purpose. You do not have to have everything said in your Satchet. It can be just herbs that symbolize protection, or various stones that symbolize love, for example.

Keep in mind:

Although very similar, Amulets and Talismans are very different from each other. An amulet is a more general item (like the said Crucifix) and a talisman is more personal. Many times a talisman may be made using natural items.

When making Amulets or Talismans:

As in any magickal working you do, keep the intent clear. Know that the amulet or talisman is there to serve your purpose. Do not have doubts when you are putting intent into the amulet or talisman. Be sure to have consecrated and cleansed the objects you are using as they may have foreign energies within them already.
