Meditation/vision/chakra

When you meditate you do you completely erase every thought from your head? I am new to all of this so I just started meditating and everything. I usually still have a few subconscious thoughts that I usually ignore and dont really notice. Also the other day I was meditating in my closet (because it is dark and quiet in there) and I saw a really bright light off to the left a little so I focused on that and it was an eye with designs around in the light, it only stayed there for a few seconds then it was just a light ..what on earth was the lit up eye!? Was it a vision or something? And im having a hard time opening my root chakra up, ive tried many things that ive looked up on the internet and nothing ..any tips? is it possible that I opened it but I just dont notice it? Im taking it one chakra at a time and this is barely the first one so ill probably have trouble with the others

I control my thoughts now while meditating but at starting it was difficult to clear mind but as I practice I learn to clear mind if Sometimes it becomes hard to clear mind then I let my thoughts flow or jst start again and watching colours is usual while meditating I do also see the colours dots or It could be your imagination you saying about Well I dont know may be vision but never heard of this type of vision anyway you will feel when its opened your root chakra if you have any doubt Do again chakra meditation...

This is really helpful and I really like the way you explain how to center your energies. I'll keep this in mind. This is great advice for newbies. I'm not a newbie but this is a great way to really place it into perspective. Thanks.
