The idea is not to "clear" your mind, but to concentrate on one "thought", or better still, an object. The object can be anything; a candle, a little statue. A small bowl of water is good. Put some ink or black water-paint in it. Works better dark!
Keep trying. You'll get there in the end!

still the rush of everday thoughts and concentrate on just one thing and not a myriad of things as your mind unconciously does. thats what meditation does. and brysing, NOT easier to do when its dark as you can fall asleep easier. do it in a somewhat dim room but not what brysing says.

Meditation, like any other art takes lots of practice. I'd have to agree with the above comments, start one step at a time by concentrating on specific thoughts then moving on to none at all. Use incense or music if it helps.

Meditating in the dark can be useful, I don't believe it'll make you fall asleep. It all depends on you preferences and what works for you.

I did not mean meditate in the dark! I meant make make the water dark, either by ink or black water-paint. I thought I had made that clear.

instead of "thinking" you made it clear its better if you make it as such. my bad. misinterpretation.
