I think that magic in general could be considered "taboo" or "forbidden" by much of society, as (at least here in the US) much of our society follow Christianity. In the Pagan community, on the other hand, magic is welcomed and accepted. It is either malevolent or benevolent depending on the intent of the caster, so I suppose to some in our community one or the other could be considered "taboo" depending in their individual views. Perhaps you could be more specific as to what it is you are looking for?

he proclaims to practice the left hand path, so he probably thinks that means he has to delve into anything taboo.

Many things are taboo or forbidden in most religions. This is because all religions (except witchcraft)depend on the control of the "believers! Catholic priests are forbidden to marry; blame Pope Gregory for that! Most religions forbid "contact" with other faiths. This is certainly changing in the UK. We now have "inter-faith" talks, discussions. Most of the religions join in these meetings;the exception is the Catholic. They never join in! But we do get Jewish Rabbis;Muslim leaders; Church of England Pastors; Baptists, and of course, Pagans.

Chovahani Spells

Could not do spells that would harm a respected member of family without true reason to. Dishonoring the family and such.

Spells could not harm harm the blind, death, or dumb unless they were cruel to them.

Could not enslave any mythical creature.

Their are a few others but other than these are the main one's.

Some ancient magicks are seemed as "forbidden" by some covens and groups as the amount of energy that they use are fatal and can seriously injure a user. Also if you can not control the ancient magicks they may try to stop you from using them.
