Original Language & Spell

most of the spell in use only are not really what they were in original language, they go through a lot of processing which i think undermines the potency or effectiveness of a spell, take for instance a spell originally written in Spanish will have less effect when translated to English before usage, how ever knowledge of the original language is not really that important when using the spell, what i mean is all you have to do is call the words that makes the spell and it will happen, intonation and correct pronunciation does not in fact make for an error or disadvantage what so ever.
If spells are left in their original form they are even more accurate

Actually this isn't true becuase magic comes from within. If you don't know how to speak Spanish a Spanish spell won't work. Languages don't matter in magic becuase you use whatever language you want to use.

@ spellchanter

i got confused my this:

" If you don't know how to speak Spanish a Spanish spell won't work. Languages don't matter in magic becuase you use whatever language you want to use."

can you please explain it to me because
to me it looks like you contradicted your self
magic works and it doesn't matter what language you use
you can translate a spell into any other language and it will work!
but a spell won't work if it's not done in the language it was made!

ok this is what i got from what you wrote
and it's kind of confusing!

what spellchanter was trying to say as far as I can tell was that magic doesn't come from the words or the language but from the intent

thank you bloodmage01

and i also agree with Lucan

my thoughs words can be powerful but the intent and the feeling
is also very important

as someone who is a translator in her free time
i have learned that we need to understand what's said( written)
and then put the right words into the translation

@luciferwhspr

What I was trying to say was that there is no use saying a spell in a language you don't use or know because then it means nothing to you.

i will point out that a lot of people are putting hard work into translations these days and, they study the context and everything before translating, but i must tell you this, 90% chances are that the spell wont work out the way it should, do you know i dont speak latin, and some of my most powerful spells, most potent, are written in latin, not by me, but by they forbearance of the practice i hold. you know many thing i say in the spell process or many things i chant, i don't really know their meaning verbatim but ii can explain what it means and it will work for what i want it to work for. This brings me to a question of why magic has to come from within, it almost sound like we need faith in magic in other for it to work which is not so! i dont know what modernity is doing to magic, but the magic i grow up learning and which i practice does not need faith. magic is calculated, result should be the same when applied in millions of occasions so what are you saying?
If i write a spell, give you some incantation to chant, you had better chant it in the language i wrote it, because it is calculated, look when i knew that 1+1= 2 i do not understand what 1 means, in the sense that, when i was a kid i know this simple equation and the outcome is always the same, when i bring 1 object and another object together its always 2 thats what magic should be.
i read a lot of these new magics and i only see a few that potent, that will work for what it was meant to work for.
you don't have to know the meaning the outcome is still the same!

To the same end a spell can be miscast even if it is read and spoken aloud within the original language. Why? The lack of understanding of the practitioner. The lack of understanding is the primary issue within casting a spell, and the primary issue of translation.

Something is always lost in translation. The original language may well include metaphors, common phrases, or words that cannot be directly translated into another language. This is common place. And so some small facets of the original spell that was written is lost.

That is why it is the duty of those who practice not to simply regurgitate that what we see before us, and that which is handed to us all too easily, but to explore the nature of the magick mind, body, and spirit before we begin to try to manipulate it. It is this study which allows us to capture the original intent of the material and expand upon it.

But yes, as I've said elsewhere even in the Book of Abra Melin it is suggested that one should speak in one's native tongue if one is not familiar with the language your spell offers. Why? Because there is little point in trying to cast a spell while you stutter, mumble, and reproduce sound without any comprehension.

The words are not really important at all, and in fact are unnecessary. If you choose to use words than indeed, you should choose words that match that which you wish to occur. However, words themselves are not necessary. You can simply visual that which you wish to occur, and attain what you wish in the same manner, without words, ritual or ceremony.
