Candles

I'm so incredibly interested in magick, and have been doing psionics for about 3 months now, and have decided to do a lot more magick in my practices. And almost every darn spell needs candles! I know where to find incense and candles for my parents have some, but I'm absolutely forbidden to use them. If I asked, I'd get a responce that would have to do with a house fire, and plus, I really don't want them to know that I do magick. I hate being a 13 year old witch, but I suppose it can't be helped. Anyways, I was wondering what you can use as a substitute for candles, or even what you guys inparticular use. I'm very intent on doing this ritual: http://spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=28&coven=3 but I can't because of my need for candles. Can anyone help me?~

Turns out the chat indeed is quite faster answer-wise. I found out that you can visualize the materials as this stuff has a lot to do with the mind anyways. I won't delete this thread as I think it could be very useful for noobies. Materials can be mucho fustrating...-o

My parent's where exactly the same, and my dad kicked off when I started using candles upstairs in my room without his permission.
Even though I'm 18 this year.
You have to understand where your parents are coming from, then sit them down and show them that you are responsible.
This worked for me.
If this doesn't work for you, then respect their wishes and try again when you are a bit older.
But, in the mean time, like everyone has said, astral projection.

o.o I don't know where astral projection came from, I was just told to visualize xD. I'd rather not ask in the first place because they'd totally ask what I'm doing with them, and my dad's a hardcore skeptic that doesn't have any intention on backing up his believes, it's just if he believes it, everyone has to. -.-. He'd never let me do it. If I really wanted to I know where the incense is and I have a pretty good idea where the candles are, so when my parents are out, I could easily do it. Tho my mom's suspicious of everything, she's like a detective. If I did it she'd probably find out unless I was extra careful, and did it like...god knows where so she can't smell it. So I think visualization will work for me :>. Tho I have been planning to learn astral some day.

hehe here is my way.........find out when both your parents are gone and you are alone......then do your ritual/spell and one advice. during the spell keep the window open so they don't smell the smoke. that's how i do. they never realized the smoke

I understand not every parent is going to jump for joy when their child mentions that they want/are practicing magick.

But sometimes, kids underestimate their parents as well.
Yes, your parents may think its a joke, or a load of crap....but you don't KNOW for sure unless you speak to them about it. And when I say speak, I mean do so in an intellignt manner, not " look, I'll prove it to you...I'm going to make it rain today. Yes, I know they've been talking about rain all day on the news...but I did it, really" ( not say you personally would do that...just saying ).

I was raised in a very Catholic family, but was lucky enough to have a mother who raised me to think for myself. Granted, it backfired on her once or twice, but it was an advantage when I spoke to her about it.

Candle magick is a very basic form of magick, but because you are using fire...can be dangerous. I understand a lot of people think they are responsible to light a candle and do their thing, but from expeirence, anything can go wrong.

I was 17 and almost burned down the house in a random glass explosion while doing a spell.

If you have found another way to do spells that do not require candle and are capable of doing it, right on...but I do not condone sneaking behind your parents back. Frankly, they will find out..and when they do..it doesn't make a good case of responsibility and being able to choose your own path properly if you have to hide and lie about things to them.

Lol, I did mean visualize..it was 9 in the morning UK time, I was getting ready for college and I was still half asleep, forgive me. =)
Although when you can astral project, you can create your own astral temple, allowing you to do rituals etc, where you will not be disturbed, if you cannot do them on the physical plain.

I get where your coming from healer.
I keep hearing constantly about the astral plane, so I might just start learning about astral projection right now, since I've been meaning to learn about it for some time. That'd be awesome having your own space in the astral world! :3. As far as candles go, I probably will just start visualizing, other than that the astral plane sounds like a good idea.

Sadly, to my despair, I was stupid enough to not click my back-up tab soon enough, and my dad saw the words Magic Forums about an hour ago, when I was typing some page long message. He asked me about it, and I immediately switched to my back-up tab, and sad he must be seeing things. I said and regretted saying "Magick isn't real." and then to my immediate surprise he said it was real, and went about his business signing abra kadabras. I don't know if I said this in the first post or not, but I remember one day at my grandmother's where my ex-crack selling cousins, and their aunt stayed to get clean, and start a new life, were talking at the table. I remember one of them, Joey Bellerose, practiced magick, and showed me his spell book, and told me some of the dangers of it. He told me about bad spirits, and protection spells. This is where I one day about 3-4months ago got the idea to google magic and that's how I got here. Anyways, I remember my aunt suggesting we do a 5 person levitation ritual, we didn't do it, but they tried to coax my dad into doing it. He smiled to sad no, he didn't beleive in magick. My only hopes are that he didn't take that huge of a mental note on this, and didn't put too much thought into it, for I would prefer my parents not know about my magickal workings. I don't care if my mom knows about my psionics, but magick, I just would rather not.
Two worst case but totally possible senarios:
1. My mom would over react, and ban me from doing it, claim that I could be putting them all in danger.
2. My dad would laugh, and think that I'm just a child interested in the whole hocus pocus idea, and go on about it for a little while on how it's not real, and will never be real.
3. My parent's would think I worship satan.
So uh...bad position at the moment. I'm just hoping that when my dad get's off of work, as it is my mom's birthday, he does not remember anything about it. I may even look up the possibility of memory spells being real, tho they probably aren't and if they are they're black magick I'd assume -.-.
