If your girlfriend expects you to participate in her Christian holidays, she should be participating in your Pagan holidays as well. Relationships are about equal give and take.

That said, you should talk to her about it. Say, "Hey, this is important to me. I am willing to celebrate your Christian holidays with you, and I feel you should reciprocate. If you aren't willing to celebrate my holidays with me, don't expect me to celebrate yours with you."

There's really no way to 'make' her celebrate them with you; you just have to talk to her about it.

In many ways she is already following some of the pagan holidays, as they are encorporated into the Christan ones.

Ostara is similar to Easter.

Samhain is Halloween (I know not Christian but many still take part.)

Yule is similar to Christmas.

In occasions like these you can add some of your own personal pagan traditions into the Christian ones, over time they will be merged together.

For other holidays you may have to discuss with her the way you feel, it can't always be one sided, she should have to celebrate at least some pagan aspects if you are celebrating her Christian ones.

It has been a long, long time since I've celebrated any holiday for religious reasons. I do, however, love the holidays. Why? Because I celebrate them with my friends and family. They are the reasons I celebrate.

Celebrate the holidays for your girlfriend, because of your girlfriend. Don't get bent out of shape over the rest of the nonsense. Life's too short.

Just ask her?

A friend of mine is in a similar situation, he's one of those pagans that goes out of his way to show everyone he is, and his fiance is Catholic. [not an extremist, though her family is] she's not 100% ok with his beliefs but she's agreed to observe, and/or read the history, but she doesn't want the kids raised Pagan. Word of advice, don't have her first holiday be Samhain. [My friend took her to our Samhain circle and she was half convinced we were worshiping the devil because of the black, purple and orange decorations, tarot readings and all the spirit communications while in circle.] Ask her to join you for Yule or another 'Christian like' holiday. [Which was her second circle. She was far calmer.]

Also, don't force her to participate, just ask her to watch. Also, don't be upset if she wishes to watch from outside the circle, or she chooses to not participate in the cake and ale. I've had many friends and family observe the circle, and some feel more comfortable outside the circle, or don't wish to participate in any way. It's perfectly fine, don't tell her she has to do anything and it should go over better.

My husband and I have made the compromise to blend our two traditions together. Him being christian and myself pagan. Normally they just turn out to be wonderful messes of gifts, food, family and love. Big emphasis on the food part.

I think that would be a great way for you both to celebrate both of your religious celebrations together. It gives you both an opportunity to learn more about each other and grow as a couple.
